Product description

File uploads present a category of risk that signature-only inspection struggles to address. When a PDF, spreadsheet, or archive contains a zero-day payload, the FortiCloud Sandbox Service subscription gives the FortiWeb 1000F a behavioral detonation layer: suspicious objects are forwarded to Fortinet’s cloud-hosted FortiSandbox SaaS, analyzed in an isolated environment, and a verdict is returned to the appliance so it can act before the file reaches the application backend.

Overview

When the FortiWeb 1000F encounters a file upload flagged for deeper inspection, the FortiCloud Sandbox integration submits the object to Fortinet’s cloud sandbox infrastructure. The sandbox detonates the file across multiple OS profiles, observes runtime behavior, and returns a verdict. FortiWeb acts on that verdict immediately, blocking or quarantining the file before it reaches the application server.

Because analysis runs off-box in Fortinet’s multi-tenant cloud environment, the 1000F’s processing resources remain available for WAF rule evaluation, SSL offload, and bot mitigation. The subscription covers file submissions for the full 12-month term, backed by FortiGuard’s continuously updated behavioral detection models. No on-premises FortiSandbox appliance or VM is required.

Who it suits

Applications that accept user-supplied files carry inherent exposure to weaponized documents: patient record uploads in healthcare portals, financial statement submissions, contract management tools, and e-commerce product import interfaces. Security teams that lack the budget or operational capacity for a dedicated on-premises sandbox get equivalent protection through the cloud-delivered service.

Organizations already running FortiSandbox on-premises can use this subscription to add cloud overflow capacity during high-volume periods or as a secondary detonation environment for redundancy. The subscription activates on the existing 1000F without additional hardware procurement or deployment effort.

Frequently asked questions

Does the FortiCloud Sandbox Service require a FortiSandbox appliance on-premises?
No. The service routes file submissions to Fortinet’s cloud-hosted sandbox infrastructure. No local FortiSandbox hardware or VM is required on the customer’s side.
Which file types can the FortiWeb 1000F submit for sandbox analysis?
FortiWeb can submit executables, Office documents, PDFs, archives, and scripts. The exact set is configured through the FortiWeb OS policy applied to the 1000F, allowing administrators to scope submissions to the file types their applications handle.
Is this subscription available to customers outside Canada?
Yes. Electronic subscriptions from DataCenter360.ca are fulfilled worldwide. FortiCloud infrastructure spans multiple geographic regions, so analysis latency is not concentrated in one location.
