It inspects inbound and outbound mail with FortiGuard AI-powered security, and adds advanced defenses like content disarm & reconstruction, cloud sandboxing, URL click protection and data-loss prevention.

Choose a hardware appliance for dedicated on-premises performance, a FortiMail-VM to run on your own hypervisor or cloud, or FortiMail Cloud if you want Fortinet to host email security as a service. All three run the same engine and FortiGuard services — the difference is who manages the infrastructure.

FortiMail can deploy out-of-line using native Microsoft 365 and Google APIs — no MX record change required — adding threat detection and post-delivery clawback of newly-discovered threats on top of the built-in cloud-email security. It can also run in classic gateway mode via an MX change. The Cloud Email API connector is a licensed add-on.
