A 400GbE QSFP-DD port carries eight 50G PAM4 lanes, which a breakout cable can split into two 200GbE QSFP56 links of four lanes each. The FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-2QSFP56-L1 is Fortinet’s 1-metre passive version: one QSFP-DD connector on the 400G side, two QSFP56 connectors on the 200G side, all optics integrated. It lets one 400G port on a top-end FortiGate feed two 200G devices, on low-power copper, and it is Fortinet-qualified so every end is recognized.

The single QSFP-DD end goes into a 400GbE port that supports 2x200G breakout; the two QSFP56 ends land on 200GbE QSFP56 ports. Confirm the QSFP-DD port is set to breakout mode on your FortiGate. For a 2.5m reach, use the FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-2QSFP56-LB5. For an 8x50G split instead, use the FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-8SFP56-L1; for a straight 400G link, the FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-DAC-01.
