Product description

A FortiMail 3200E outage, power event, or upstream connectivity failure does not have to mean lost mail or user-visible disruption. The FortiMail Cloud Email Continuity subscription keeps a cloud-based spooling layer ready to activate automatically the moment the primary appliance becomes unreachable. Users retain access to recent messages and can send replies from their normal addresses through a web interface, with no manual failover step required from IT.

Overview

When continuity mode activates, Fortinet’s cloud infrastructure begins accepting mail on behalf of registered domains. Messages spool in the cloud for up to 30 days. The activation trigger is a real-time appliance health check, so no emergency DNS change is needed during an outage. A secondary MX record is provisioned when the subscription is first activated and remains in DNS at a lower priority, taking traffic automatically when the primary appliance stops responding. Once the 3200E recovers, queued messages are delivered in order. The emergency webmail interface allows end users to send and receive throughout the outage window using their standard email address.

Who it suits

Large enterprises that publish business continuity or disaster recovery SLAs to customers or auditors and must demonstrate that no inbound mail is lost during a declared incident. Organizations in regulated industries where email continuity is a compliance requirement, not just an operational preference. IT teams running a single FortiMail 3200E without a secondary appliance who want cloud-redundancy without the capital cost of a second piece of hardware.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

FC-10-M3K2E-309-02-12 is an annual electronic license per appliance. The continuity service is idle during normal operation and adds no throughput overhead to the 3200E until a failover condition is detected. DataCenter360.ca delivers this license worldwide and can quote it alongside FortiCare Premium and bundle renewal terms for consolidated annual purchasing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cloud Email Continuity require any DNS changes before an outage occurs?
Fortinet provisions a lower-priority secondary MX record when the subscription is activated. No emergency DNS change is needed during an outage because the record is already published and only receives traffic when the primary appliance health check fails.
How long can mail spool in the cloud before messages are returned to senders?
Messages can spool for up to 30 days. Sending mail servers that implement their own retry queues will continue attempting delivery in parallel, so the effective window is often longer.
Can end users send outbound mail during continuity mode, or only receive?
The emergency webmail interface supports both inbound and outbound messaging under the user’s standard email address for the full duration of the outage, with no action required from end users to access it.
