Product description

When a network spans multiple data-center fabrics and demands sub-4-microsecond latency under full threat inspection, the FortiGate 1800F is the firewall that fills the gap between mid-range platforms and chassis-class gear. It delivers 198 Gbps of firewall throughput and 22 Gbps of IPS performance in a 2RU form factor, without asking you to compromise on port density or redundancy.

What’s in the Box

The FG-1800F ships as hardware only (license not included). The package includes the appliance, dual hot-swappable AC power supplies, and two SFP+ SR transceivers. Add the FortiGuard subscription that matches your inspection policy separately, or use a bundle SKU for combined hardware-plus-license pricing.

Where the 1800F Performs Best

This appliance targets large enterprise and service-provider edges where traffic volumes exceed what mid-range firewalls handle reliably. The 100GE uplinks, 25GE access ports, and 210 Mpps packet forwarding rate make it a natural fit for:

  • Data-center north-south perimeters at high-density co-location and private DC sites
  • Internet edge aggregation combining multiple 10GE or 25GE upstream connections under consolidated inspection
  • Large campus networks managing thousands of wireless access points (supports up to 4,096 FortiAPs)
  • Hyperscale deployments, optionally licensable to 40 million concurrent sessions and 2 million new sessions per second
  • 5G and 4G mobile security gateways using SPU-accelerated CGNAT, GTP-U inspection, and NAT64/DNS64 translation

Hardware Alone vs. a Bundle

The FG-1800F hardware SKU ships with no FortiGuard subscription attached. This suits organizations that already hold an active FortiCare contract transferable to a new appliance, or teams running a phased procurement where hardware and licensing budgets fall in different fiscal quarters. If you want the appliance inspection-ready from the first boot, the FG-1800F-BDL family pairs hardware with UTP or Enterprise Protection subscriptions at combined pricing.

Who Runs This Appliance

Typical buyers are large enterprise network teams and managed security service providers replacing aging 1U platforms or consolidating multiple smaller firewalls. It also serves organizations whose SOC policy requires dedicated local logging storage: the 2 x 960 GB NVMe SSDs absorb high-rate log volumes without an external FortiAnalyzer at medium scale. High-availability deployments use the two dedicated 10GE SFP+ HA ports with active-active or active-passive clustering, keeping heartbeat and session-sync traffic off data-plane interfaces.

Moving Up

If throughput requirements push beyond the 1800F’s 198 Gbps ceiling, the FortiGate 2600F is the direct next step, offering higher firewall and IPsec VPN capacity in the same appliance class. For slot-based scalability and chassis-level redundancy, the FortiGate 4000F and 7000F series carry the workload further.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca stocks the FG-1800F and ships it free within Canada, normally in 0 to 1 business day. As an authorized Fortinet Select Partner, we provide pre-sales configuration guidance, bundle pricing comparisons, and licensing activation support. Volume and government purchase orders are welcome — use the quote form to request bulk pricing or to confirm current delivery timelines for your project.

Does the FG-1800F include any FortiGuard subscriptions?
No. The hardware-only SKU ships without FortiGuard service licenses. IPS, application control, URL filtering, and other inspection services require a separate subscription, sold as FC-10-F18HF-… SKUs or as a combined bundle through the FG-1800F-BDL-… family.

What is the difference between the FG-1800F and FG-1801F?
The FortiGate 1801F is the FIPS/CC-compliant variant of the same hardware platform, intended for government and regulated-industry environments that mandate those certifications. Port layout and performance specs are identical between the two; the 1801F ships with a FIPS-mode locked firmware image.

Can the QSFP28 slots run at 100GE out of the box?
Yes, with a firmware requirement. FortiOS 7.0.16+, 7.2.8+, 7.4+, or 7.6+ is needed to enable 100GE operation on the four QSFP28/QSFP+ slots. At those firmware revisions the slots accept both 100GE QSFP28 and 40GE QSFP+ transceivers. Earlier firmware versions operate the same slots at 40GE only.

Does the FG-1800F ship outside Canada?
Hardware appliances sold through DataCenter360.ca ship within Canada only; we are not authorized to export Fortinet hardware internationally. FortiGuard subscriptions and FortiCare licenses are electronic products with no shipping restriction and are delivered to any country.

What HA clustering options does the FortiGate 1800F support?
The FortiGate 1800F supports active-active, active-passive, and multi-unit clustering. Two dedicated 10GE SFP+ HA ports carry heartbeat and session-sync traffic independently of production interfaces. For hyperscale clustering, the optional Hyperscale Firewall License expands concurrent session capacity to 40 million and new sessions per second to 2 million.
