Product description

Fortinet’s FortiGate 2500E (FG-2500E) is a hardware-only appliance for data centers that have outgrown branch-class firewalls but don’t yet need the highest-end chassis platforms. It ships with SPU NP6 network processing and CP9 content processing built in, ten 10GE SFP+ slots for uplinks and inter-segment links, and no FortiGuard or FortiCare license attached, so buyers who already carry a Fortinet Enterprise Agreement or want to time licensing separately can order the box on its own.

What’s in the box

The FG-2500E order code covers the 2 RU appliance itself: 10 x 10GE SFP+ slots plus 2 x 10GE bypass SFP+ ports (LC connector), 34 x GE RJ45 ports (32 usable plus 2 dedicated management/HA ports), one USB port, one console port, a single 480 GB SSD for local storage, and dual hot-swappable AC power supplies. Fortinet includes two 10GE SFP+ SR transceivers in the box. No FortiCare support contract and no FortiGuard security subscription ship with this SKU, both are sold separately as license SKUs or as one of the FG-2500E-BDL bundles.

Where it’s strong

The 2500E’s ten 10GE SFP+ slots make it a natural fit for data center edge and internal segmentation roles where 1GE uplinks are already a bottleneck. NP6 handles firewall, VPN, and traffic-shaping workloads in hardware down to 2 microseconds of latency, while CP9 offloads SSL inspection (including TLS 1.3) and IPS pattern matching so the appliance can run deep inspection without the throughput collapse that hits software-only firewalls. At 20 million concurrent sessions and 500,000 new sessions per second, it comfortably handles dense server farms, colocation racks, and multi-tenant environments.

Hardware alone vs. a licensed bundle

Buying the FG-2500E hardware-only means the appliance boots and passes basic firewall traffic, but FortiGuard security services (IPS updates, antivirus, web filtering, and the rest of the AI-powered service stack) and FortiCare support stay inactive until a subscription is attached. That’s the right call if a Fortinet Enterprise Agreement already covers the licensing, or if the deployment timeline calls for staggering the hardware purchase and license activation. Buyers who want everything active on day one should instead look at the FG-2500E-BDL-950 (UTP) or FG-2500E-BDL-809 (Enterprise) bundles, which pair the same appliance with FortiCare Premium and a full FortiGuard service stack for a 1, 3, or 5-year term.

Who runs it

The 2500E shows up most often as a data center core or internal segmentation firewall for mid-size to large enterprises, and as an edge platform for managed service providers running multi-tenant environments. Its 10GE port density and hardware-accelerated IPsec throughput (95 Gbps) also make it a candidate for site-to-site VPN concentration between a data center and multiple branch or cloud sites.

Moving up

Organizations that outgrow the 2500E’s port count or throughput ceiling typically step up to the FortiGate 2600F, which adds newer-generation ASICs and higher throughput while keeping a comparable 2 RU footprint. DataCenter360.ca stocks that model as well, hardware-only or as a licensed bundle, so a generation upgrade is a straightforward swap when it’s time to refresh.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

We stock the FG-2500E as a genuine, brand-new Fortinet appliance and ship it within 0–1 business day to addresses across Canada. As an authorized Fortinet Select Partner, DataCenter360.ca can also help attach the right FortiCare and FortiGuard licensing after the hardware order, whether that’s a standalone service SKU or a full UTP/Enterprise bundle purchased separately. Reach out through the quote form if a firm build-out plan needs a mixed hardware-plus-licensing quote.

Does the FG-2500E ship with FortiGuard or FortiCare included?

No. This SKU is hardware only. FortiGuard security services and FortiCare support are sold separately as license SKUs, or bundled in at checkout via the FG-2500E-BDL-950 (UTP) or FG-2500E-BDL-809 (Enterprise) options.

Where does DataCenter360.ca ship the FG-2500E?

Hardware ships to Canadian addresses only, since we’re not currently authorized to export FortiGate appliances. Licensing for this model is delivered electronically and can be purchased for use worldwide.

What’s the difference between the FG-2500E and the FG-2500E-BDL bundles?

The FG-2500E is the appliance alone. The BDL SKUs add a term license (1, 3, or 5 years) that activates FortiCare Premium support plus either FortiGuard UTP (950) or Enterprise (809) security services on top of the same hardware.

How many 10GE ports does the FortiGate 2500E have?

Ten hardware-accelerated 10GE SFP+ slots plus two additional 10GE bypass SFP+ ports (LC connector), alongside 32 usable GE RJ45 ports and 2 dedicated management/HA GE ports.

Can the FG-2500E be clustered for high availability?

Yes. It supports Active-Active, Active-Passive, and clustering HA configurations, and each unit includes dual hot-swappable AC power supplies for redundancy at the hardware level.
