Product description

Fixed broadband is not always reliable — or even available — at every branch site. The FortiGate 40F-3G4G (FG-40F-3G4G) solves this by building a 3G/4G LTE WAN module directly into the firewall chassis. Insert a SIM, configure a cellular WAN interface in FortiOS, and you have a backup internet path that activates automatically when your primary connection drops — no separate router or USB modem required.

How the LTE Module Works in FortiOS

The embedded LTE modem appears as a standard WAN interface inside FortiOS. SD-WAN policies can assign it as a secondary path — for example, route business-critical traffic over fixed broadband and shift to LTE automatically if latency or packet loss exceed defined thresholds. At a retail site or pop-up location, you can also use the LTE module as the primary WAN if fixed broadband is unavailable entirely. Three external SMA antenna connectors are included, so signal quality can be optimized for the installation location.

Hardware Only — What That Means

This listing is the appliance alone. A FortiCare support contract and at least one FortiGuard service subscription are required for threat intelligence and warranty. License options for the FortiGate 40F-3G4G use the FC-10-F40FG- prefix (for example, FC-10-F40FG-950-02-12 for 1-Year UTP). A SIM card for the LTE module is also not included; compatible nano-SIMs from major Canadian carriers work with the modem.

Who Buys the FG-40F-3G4G

Retail chains, food service locations, and field offices in areas with inconsistent fixed broadband are the primary buyers. It is also popular among businesses that need a rapid deployment option — the 3G4G can be operational in minutes at a new site before a fixed line is installed. MSPs servicing clients in remote or semi-rural Canadian locations frequently standardize on this unit for exactly that reason.

Moving Up: FortiGate 60F

When user count or bandwidth requirements exceed the 40F’s capacity, the FortiGate 60F (FG-60F) provides higher throughput and more LAN ports. For sites that specifically need LTE plus HA redundancy, the FG-40F-3G4G-HA is the correct choice for the secondary unit in a pair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a SIM card included with the FG-40F-3G4G?

No. A nano-SIM from your preferred cellular carrier is required but not included. The embedded LTE module supports the major Canadian carriers. Check the Fortinet datasheet for the full list of supported LTE bands.

Can the LTE module be used as the primary WAN?

Yes. FortiOS can route all traffic over the LTE interface, making it suitable for sites without fixed broadband. In most deployments it is configured as a secondary WAN for failover, but primary LTE operation is fully supported.

Does the FG-40F-3G4G include a license?

No. This listing is hardware only. A FortiCare support subscription and FortiGuard service are required. Look for FC-10-F40FG- prefix SKUs on DataCenter360.ca for the matching license options.

What is the difference between FG-40F and FG-40F-3G4G?

The FG-40F-3G4G adds an embedded 3G/4G LTE WAN module and three external SMA antenna connectors compared to the standard FG-40F. All firewall, IPS, and security performance specifications are identical. Choose the 3G4G variant when cellular WAN backup or primary LTE connectivity is required.

Is the FG-40F-3G4G available in Canada?

Yes. DataCenter360.ca stocks this unit in Canada and ships free to all provinces in 0–1 business days. This listing is for Canadian customers only.
