Product description

5G coverage has reached most Canadian cities and a growing number of suburban and industrial areas. The FortiGate 50G-5G (FG-50G-5G) takes direct advantage of that by building a 5G cellular WAN module into the same high-performance chassis as the FG-50G. You get 2.25 Gbps IPS throughput and 1.3 Gbps SSL inspection from the G-series platform, with a 5G modem ready to serve as primary or backup WAN — no separate cellular router needed.

5G WAN: What It Enables

The cellular WAN module in the FG-50G-5G connects as a fully managed WAN interface inside FortiOS. SD-WAN health checks monitor the 5G path alongside your fixed ISP connection and shift traffic automatically when the primary link degrades. In urban areas where 5G is available, the cellular link can deliver enough bandwidth to serve as a genuine primary WAN for a small office — not just an emergency backup.

For deployments at temporary sites, pop-up offices, or any location where digging a fibre or cable connection is not practical, the 50G-5G can be online in minutes after power-up and SIM insertion.

Hardware Only — What That Means

This listing is the appliance without subscription. FortiCare and FortiGuard service are required to activate threat intelligence and warranty. License options for the FG-50G-5G use the FC-10-F50G5- prefix — the 1-Year UTP (FC-10-F50G5-950-02-12) and Enterprise (FC-10-F50G5-809-02-12) are available separately on DataCenter360.ca. A nano-SIM card is not included.

Who Buys the FG-50G-5G

The FG-50G-5G appeals to businesses in Canadian cities where 5G coverage from the major carriers (Bell, Rogers, Telus) is reliable and fast. Retail locations, professional offices, and construction or project-site offices benefit from the combination of strong firewall performance and cellular WAN flexibility. MSPs building managed branch solutions for clients who want WAN redundancy without a separate cellular device also choose this unit.

Moving Up: FortiGate 51G-5G

The FortiGate 51G-5G (FG-51G-5G) adds onboard SSD storage to the same 5G platform, for deployments that need both cellular WAN and local log retention. The performance profile and WAN module are identical; the 51G-5G adds the storage layer on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between FG-50G and FG-50G-5G?

The FG-50G-5G adds an embedded 5G/4G LTE cellular WAN module with external SMA antenna connectors compared to the base FG-50G. All firewall, IPS, and security performance specifications are identical. Choose the 5G variant when cellular WAN — as primary or backup — is required.

Is a SIM card included?

No. A nano-SIM from your preferred Canadian carrier is required but not included. The 5G modem supports the major Canadian carrier bands. Consult the Fortinet 50G-5G datasheet for the complete list of supported frequencies.

Can the 5G module be used as the primary WAN connection?

Yes. FortiOS treats the cellular interface as a standard WAN port. In areas with strong 5G coverage, the module can serve as the sole or primary WAN for a small office. Most deployments use it as a secondary path for SD-WAN failover, but primary 5G operation is fully supported.

Does the FG-50G-5G include a license?

No. This listing is hardware only. FortiCare and FortiGuard subscriptions are required. License options with the FC-10-F50G5- prefix are available separately on DataCenter360.ca.

Is the FG-50G-5G available in Canada?

Yes. DataCenter360.ca stocks this unit in Canada and ships free to all provinces in 0–1 business days. This listing is for Canadian customers only.
