Product description

Many branch offices and small businesses still connect over copper DSL lines, whether VDSL from the local telco or ADSL where fibre has not yet reached. The FortiGate 50G-DSL (FG-50G-DSL) eliminates the need for a separate DSL modem by integrating a DSL WAN module directly into the firewall chassis. You get the full G-series performance platform: 2.25 Gbps IPS, 1.3 Gbps SSL inspection, with a built-in DSL uplink ready to terminate your copper WAN connection.

Why Integrated DSL Matters

With a standalone firewall and a separate DSL modem, you have two devices to power, manage, and replace when something fails. The 50G-DSL removes the modem from the equation. The DSL interface appears directly in FortiOS as a WAN port, so SD-WAN health checks, failover policies, and traffic shaping apply to the DSL link the same way they do to any other WAN interface. For sites where the IT staff is remote or non-technical, fewer physical devices means fewer failure points and simpler troubleshooting.

Hardware Only — What That Means

This listing is the appliance alone. A FortiCare support subscription and FortiGuard service are required for threat intelligence and warranty. License options for the FG-50G-DSL use the FC-10-F50GD- prefix. The 1-Year UTP (FC-10-F50GD-950-02-12) and Enterprise (FC-10-F50GD-809-02-12) subscriptions are available separately on DataCenter360.ca.

Who Uses the FG-50G-DSL

Branch offices in areas where fibre or cable broadband is unavailable and DSL is the only fixed WAN option are the primary buyers. Retail locations in smaller communities, professional offices in older buildings with only copper available, and businesses managing remote sites with DSL as a backup WAN all benefit from the integrated design. MSPs deploying managed branch security in mixed-connectivity environments frequently standardize on this unit to avoid managing separate modems at each site.

Moving Up: FortiGate 70G

When throughput or port requirements outgrow the 50G platform, the FortiGate 70G (FG-70G) is the next step in the G-series. It delivers higher session capacity and additional interfaces while running the same FortiOS and Security Fabric integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What DSL standards does the FG-50G-DSL support?

The embedded DSL module supports VDSL2, ADSL2, ADSL2+, G.DMT, G.Lite, and T1.413 across Annex A, B, I, J, M, and L. This covers the xDSL standards deployed by Canadian and international telecommunications providers. See the Fortinet 50G-DSL datasheet for the full DSL profile and line-rate specifications.

Do I still need a DSL modem with the FG-50G-DSL?

No. The FG-50G-DSL connects directly to the copper telephone line via the built-in RJ11 DSL port. A separate DSL modem or router is not required. The DSL WAN interface is managed entirely within FortiOS as a standard WAN port.

Does the FG-50G-DSL include a license?

No. This listing is hardware only. FortiCare and FortiGuard subscriptions are required for threat intelligence updates and support. License options with the FC-10-F50GD- prefix are available separately on DataCenter360.ca. Bundle options combining hardware and a 1, 3, or 5-year subscription are also listed.

Can the FG-50G-DSL use both DSL and a secondary WAN simultaneously?

Yes. FortiOS SD-WAN can use the DSL module as one WAN path and the standard GE RJ45 WAN port as a second path simultaneously, enabling load balancing or automatic failover between the two connections based on health-check thresholds you define.

Is the FG-50G-DSL available in Canada?

Yes. DataCenter360.ca stocks the FG-50G-DSL in Canada and ships free to all provinces in 0-1 business days. This hardware listing is for Canadian customers only. FortiGuard and FortiCare subscriptions for this model are available worldwide as electronic delivery.
