The FG-80F-DSL-HA is the second node of an FG-80F-DSL high availability pair — eight GE RJ45 LAN ports, two shared media WAN ports, and its own embedded VDSL2/ADSL2+ module. Deploy two units in an Active-Passive cluster and the branch gets sub-second failover without requiring the primary to survive. One FortiCare subscription covers both nodes; the embedded DSL module on each unit means there is no single modem to fail over around.

The standby unit’s DSL link is fully synchronized and ready to take the active role if the primary fails — there is no external modem to re-configure and no separate failover path to engineer. In Active-Passive mode, session state synchronizes continuously so failover is sub-second and established connections are preserved.
Each FG-80F-DSL-HA unit provides up to three WAN paths: the embedded DSL port, and the two shared media ports (RJ45 or SFP). FortiOS SD-WAN can load-balance and failover across all three simultaneously. In a two-node cluster that means up to six WAN interfaces available for policy-based routing during normal operation — well beyond what most branch appliances provide.
Fortinet covers the HA cluster under a single subscription. One FortiGuard bundle (FC-10-F80FD- prefix) or FortiCare Premium applied to the primary propagates automatically to the secondary. No separate renewal per node, no additional HA licensing fee.
