Product description

OT Security Service activates the operational technology threat intelligence layer on the FortiGate 1101E, giving security teams continuous visibility into ICS and SCADA devices on the network, automated virtual patching for known OT vulnerabilities, and deep-packet inspection for industrial protocols. Unlike the standard FortiGuard bundles (Enterprise, UTP, ATP) which focus on IT-side threats, this service is purpose-built for industrial environments where Modbus, DNP3, BACnet, and similar protocols are in use.

What the FortiGate 1101E OT Security Service covers

This 1-year subscription (FC-10-F11E1-159-02-12) activates four OT-specific capabilities on the FortiGate 1101E:

  • OT Device Detection: an up-to-date device signature database that identifies and classifies OT equipment (PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, DCS controllers, and sensors) by manufacturer and type, building an asset inventory from traffic already passing through the firewall.
  • OT Vulnerability Correlation and Virtual Patching: cross-references discovered OT devices against known vulnerability databases and automatically applies virtual patches via IPS policies, so legacy devices that cannot receive firmware updates stay protected without production downtime.
  • OT Application Control and IPS Signatures: additional detection signatures and control rules for industrial protocols and SCADA applications, allowing granular policy enforcement down to specific protocol commands and application behaviors.
  • OT Dashboards and Compliance Reports: built-in FortiOS reporting covering OT asset inventory, threat activity, and compliance posture aligned to frameworks including IEC 62443 and NERC CIP.

Who needs this subscription

Industrial organizations running the FortiGate 1101E at the IT/OT boundary are the primary buyers: manufacturing plants securing production lines, utilities protecting SCADA networks, energy companies managing distributed control systems, water treatment facilities, and transportation operators. Any site where OT protocol traffic and corporate IT traffic cross the same firewall benefits directly from this subscription.

The FortiGate 1101E is a high-throughput enterprise firewall well suited to large OT perimeters with high session volumes and multiple VLANs separating process control networks from the corporate LAN. Adding the OT Security subscription turns the firewall into an active industrial asset inventory and enforcement point, not just a network boundary.

Activation and delivery

This is an electronic subscription with no hardware component. After purchase, DataCenter360.ca delivers the license key by email within 0 to 1 business days. Registration is completed in the Fortinet Support Portal (support.fortinet.com) against the registered FortiGate 1101E serial number. Once activated, OT signatures and dashboards become available on the next policy refresh without a firmware upgrade, provided the device runs a supported FortiOS release.

OT Security Service versus the FortiGuard bundles

FortiGuard OT Security is not included in the Enterprise, UTP, or ATP FortiGuard bundles. It is an a-la-carte service that can be purchased independently or layered on top of any bundle the FortiGate 1101E already carries. Organizations running an Enterprise Protection subscription can add OT Security to cover both conventional IT threats and industrial protocol risks within the same device. For sites deploying the FortiGate 1101E strictly as an OT perimeter firewall with no need for cloud sandbox or DLP, purchasing this service alone keeps costs proportional to actual use.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca carries this FortiGate 1101E OT Security subscription in stock and processes orders the same day. Electronic delivery arrives before your next shift, with full purchase documentation for your records. As an authorized Fortinet Select Partner, we issue genuine Fortinet license keys registered against your hardware serial number. Quantity pricing for multi-site OT deployments is available on request.

Does the FortiGate 1101E OT Security Service ship as physical hardware?
No. This is a software subscription delivered entirely by electronic license key. There is no physical shipment. The key arrives by email and is activated in the Fortinet Support Portal against the registered FortiGate 1101E serial number.

Is this subscription available worldwide or only in Canada?
The FortiGate 1101E OT Security subscription is available and delivered worldwide. Electronic licensing has no geographic restriction. DataCenter360.ca processes orders for customers in Canada, the United States, and internationally.

Is OT Security included in the Enterprise, UTP, or ATP FortiGuard bundles?
No. FortiGuard OT Security Service is an a-la-carte subscription not included in any of the standard FortiGuard bundles. It must be purchased separately, regardless of which bundle the FortiGate 1101E currently carries.

What industrial protocols does the OT IPS signature package cover?
The OT Application Control and IPS signatures cover widely used industrial protocols including Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104, BACnet, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET, along with detection rules for SCADA management applications. Fortinet updates these signatures continuously through the FortiGuard threat intelligence network.

Can virtual patching protect OT devices that cannot receive firmware updates?
Yes. OT Vulnerability Correlation cross-references detected devices against known CVEs and automatically applies virtual patches through FortiGate IPS policies. This protects legacy PLCs, RTUs, and HMIs that cannot be taken offline for patching without disrupting production processes.
