Product description

An IoT footprint expands faster than most firewall policies keep pace with it, and Fortinet built the Attack Surface Security Service specifically to close that visibility gap. The FortiGate 2000E 1-Year FortiGuard Attack Surface Security Service (FC-10-002KE-175-02-12) layers continuous posture monitoring, IoT device discovery, and vulnerability-based virtual patching on top of a FortiGate 2000E for twelve months. It is a standalone subscription: no hardware ships, and delivery is fully electronic to any country.

What this service covers

Four related capabilities run for the full term:

  • Security Rating: real-time scoring of the Security Fabric deployment against known vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and sub-optimal settings, with remediation guidance mapped to each finding beyond the free base checks included on every FortiGate.
  • Outbreak Check: add-on Security Rating checks sourced from FortiGuard Outbreak alerts, surfacing active exploit campaigns and incidents inside the same posture module.
  • IoT Device Detection: an up-to-date device signature package that fingerprints and profiles IoT endpoints on the network, querying FortiGuard servers for devices the local database does not already recognize.
  • IoT Vulnerability Correlation: matches detected devices against known exploit patterns and applies targeted virtual patches on the FortiGate itself, reducing exposure without waiting on a device firmware update.

Together these four services give a compliance-ready view of the Fortinet Security Fabric and the unmanaged and IoT devices sitting on it, something a standard IPS or antivirus subscription does not cover on its own.

Who needs standalone Attack Surface Security

This license fits a FortiGate 2000E that already runs core FortiGuard protections, whether through individual services or a UTP subscription, and now needs the posture and IoT visibility layer added on top. It is a common addition for teams facing a compliance audit, managing a growing count of IoT/OT-adjacent endpoints, or simply wanting a documented security score to report upward. If the 2000E has no active FortiGuard subscriptions yet, starting from a bundle is usually the more efficient path since it brings core network and web protection along with this layer.

Attack Surface Security vs. the Enterprise bundle

Attack Surface Security, Security Rating, Outbreak Check, IoT Device Detection, and IoT Vulnerability Correlation are exclusive to the FortiGate Enterprise Protection bundle; they are not part of ATP or UTP. Buying this license à la carte delivers that one capability set without the rest of what Enterprise adds. The table below shows the scope difference:

FortiGuard Capability ATP UTP Enterprise
IPS
Advanced Malware Protection (AV)
URL, DNS & Video Filtering
Application Control
Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
Attack Surface Security (this license)
IoT Device Detection & Vulnerability Correlation

Moving the 2000E onto the Enterprise subscription (FC-10-002KE-809-02-12) brings this capability set plus the rest of the Enterprise scope under one contract and one renewal date. The UTP subscription (FC-10-002KE-950-02-12) covers network, web, and file security without the posture/IoT layer.

Activation and delivery

The license is issued electronically and registered to a specific FortiGate 2000E by serial number; no physical shipment is involved, in Canada or anywhere else. Once applied, Security Rating checks, Outbreak alerts, IoT device signatures, and virtual-patch correlation begin updating from FortiGuard for the full 12-month term. A valid, registered FortiGate 2000E is required before the license can be activated.

FortiGate 2000E Attack Surface Security Service – Frequently Asked Questions

Does this purchase include the FortiGate 2000E hardware?
No. This is a subscription license only, applied to a FortiGate 2000E you already own or are purchasing separately. Hardware and this license are sold independently.
Is Attack Surface Security included in the ATP or UTP bundles?
No. Security Rating, Outbreak Check, IoT Device Detection, and IoT Vulnerability Correlation are exclusive to the Enterprise Protection bundle for the FortiGate 2000E. Buying this standalone license adds that scope to a 2000E already running ATP, UTP, or individual services; moving to Enterprise brings it in as part of a broader package.
Can this license be purchased and used outside Canada?
Yes. Fortinet subscription licenses are delivered electronically and available to customers worldwide. No physical shipment is required, so the country of use does not affect availability.
What does IoT Vulnerability Correlation actually do on the FortiGate?
It cross-references detected IoT devices against known vulnerability patterns and applies specific virtual patches directly on the FortiGate, mitigating exploit risk for devices that cannot be patched or updated on their own schedule.
Does this license renew automatically?
No. Fortinet subscriptions require manual renewal before the term expires. A lapse stops Security Rating, Outbreak Check, and IoT signature updates on the FortiGate 2000E until a new license is applied. DataCenter360.ca can supply the renewal under the same SKU.
