Product description

Intrusion prevention is the control that decides whether a known exploit reaching your perimeter is logged or stopped. On a FortiGate 3300E, which typically sits at a data centre core or campus distribution layer, that decision applies to a very large share of an organisation’s traffic. This one-year subscription (FC-10-F33HE-108-02-12) licenses the FortiGuard IPS service on a single 3300E.

What it covers

The subscription entitles the 3300E to FortiGuard’s intrusion prevention signature feed and its continuous updates. Signatures cover known vulnerabilities and exploit techniques across operating systems, web frameworks, databases and common server software, and are matched against traffic as it passes through the appliance rather than after the fact.

Because the feed updates continuously from FortiGuard Labs, coverage for a newly disclosed CVE arrives without a firmware upgrade or a policy rewrite. Protection can be applied selectively by policy, so you can run blocking mode on server-facing rules while keeping monitor mode on segments still being tuned.

Who needs it

This licence is for organisations already operating a FortiGate 3300E. It matters most where the appliance fronts services that cannot be patched quickly: legacy application servers, vendor-managed appliances, OT-adjacent segments, or anything under a change-freeze. IPS buys time between disclosure and patch, which on a large estate is often measured in weeks. If no 3300E is in service, this SKU has nothing to bind to.

Activation & delivery

Delivery is electronic. You receive a contract registration code to apply against the 3300E serial number in FortiCloud, and the IPS entitlement activates on that appliance. Nothing ships, and there is no regional restriction on the licence itself, so it is usable wherever the unit is installed.

One service vs the bundle

On its own this line covers intrusion prevention only. The ATP, UTP and Enterprise bundles include IPS alongside further subscriptions at a lower combined cost per service, so if web filtering, anti-spam or OT signatures are likely within the same term, the bundle is usually the better arithmetic.

Included service ATP UTP Enterprise
Firewall, VPN, SD-WAN & application control
Intrusion prevention (IPS)
Anti-malware & sandboxing
URL, DNS & video filtering
Anti-spam & data loss prevention
Attack surface & security rating
OT security & industrial signatures
FortiCare support included

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca is an authorized Fortinet Select Partner and fulfils licence orders electronically. For a renewal, send the 3300E serial number with your order and we will confirm the current contract end date first, so the new term is co-terminated rather than started in parallel with time you have already paid for.

Frequently asked questions

Does enabling IPS on a 3300E reduce throughput?
Inspection always costs some capacity, and published firewall throughput figures are measured without it. The 3300E carries dedicated security processors specifically to absorb signature matching, so the practical impact depends on your policy scope and traffic mix. Size against the datasheet’s threat protection throughput rather than its raw firewall number.
How often do the IPS signatures update?
FortiGuard Labs publishes signature updates continuously, and a licensed appliance pulls them automatically. That is the point of the subscription: without an active entitlement the appliance keeps whatever signature set it last received and stops receiving new coverage.
Do I still need FortiCare alongside this?
They cover different things. This subscription entitles the IPS signature feed; FortiCare covers firmware updates, technical support and hardware RMA. Most 3300E deployments carry both, and we can quote them co-terminated on the same end date.
