What the service measures

The Underlay service runs active probes across each WAN member, tracking available bandwidth, latency, jitter, and packet loss in near real time. Those measurements feed the 60E-DSL’s SD-WAN engine, which can then route voice, business apps, and bulk traffic over the path that meets each policy’s quality target, and fail away from a degrading link before users feel it. On a DSL-based branch where one circuit can sag under load, that live read is the difference between smooth failover and a help-desk call.

Who needs it

This is for 60E-DSL sites running more than one WAN path, a DSL line plus an LTE or cable backup, or a primary and secondary broadband pair, where application performance depends on always being on the better circuit. If the branch runs a single uplink, you likely do not need underlay monitoring; this earns its keep when there is a choice to make.

Activation and delivery

You receive the entitlement electronically, usually within one business day. Register it to the 60E-DSL in FortiCloud and enable the underlay measurements in the SD-WAN configuration. Nothing ships. The term runs 12 months.
