FC-10-00804-108-02-12 is the yearly FortiGuard IPS subscription for the FortiGate 800D, and it keeps the appliance recognising and stopping exploit attempts as new vulnerabilities are disclosed.

What the Intrusion Prevention (IPS) service covers

The IPS service streams Fortinet’s network and file security intelligence to the 800D. The firewall inspects traffic against a continuously updated signature set, applies protocol decoders to catch evasion, and uses AI and machine learning for real-time detection. The most valuable piece for many teams is virtual patching: when a vendor discloses a flaw that you cannot immediately patch, the IPS blocks attempts to exploit it, buying time to schedule the real fix.

Who runs this on a FortiGate 800D

This renewal suits any 800D acting as a network gateway where exposure to inbound or lateral attack traffic is a concern, which in practice is almost all of them. It is the single most common standalone renewal because IPS coverage lapses quietly, and a firewall with stale signatures still looks healthy while missing new attacks. The FortiGate 800D and 900D reached their end-of-order milestone in April 2023, but Fortinet keeps service coverage available until the Last Service Extension Date of April 16, 2027, with support running through April 16, 2028, so keeping IPS live on a deployed 800D is a supported, sensible move.
