FortiCare Essential is Fortinet’s base service plan for FortiGate 81F appliances. It keeps the device supported throughout its deployment life: firmware and feature updates keep threat protection current, a hardware replacement program covers failed units (next-business-day advance replacement), and portal access gives your team the tools to open tickets and download software. It does not include telephone support or priority same-day RMA — those steps up are FortiCare Premium and Elite.
The FortiGate 81F adds 128 GB of onboard SSD storage to the 80F feature set, allowing local log retention without a dedicated log server. Five years of Essential coverage aligns with most branch-office hardware refresh cycles, locking in the support rate before Fortinet adjusts pricing.

Organizations that rely on a single firewall with no failover, or that need direct Fortinet telephone response, typically move to FortiCare Premium.
This is an electronic subscription. After your order is confirmed, DataCenter360.ca delivers the license registration code by email, typically within the same business day. You activate it through the FortiGate’s GUI (System > FortiGuard) or the FortiCare portal at support.fortinet.com. There is no physical shipment.
If your FortiGate 81F is still running without any active FortiGuard protection (URL filtering, IPS, AV, application control), a UTP or Enterprise bundle covers all of those services plus FortiCare Premium in a single SKU. FortiCare Essential alone keeps the hardware supported but does not activate the security subscription services.
