Product description

Endpoint protection catches threats after a file arrives on a device. Malware inspection at the firewall stops malicious content in transit, before it reaches any endpoint at all. For organizations using the FortiWiFi 60F as their primary edge device, FC-10-W060F-100-02-12 provides that inline layer: antivirus scanning, mobile malware detection, and cloud sandbox analysis running on traffic as it crosses the firewall.

What This Service Activates

The Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) Service for the FortiWiFi 60F includes three components under a single subscription:

  • Antivirus (AV): real-time file inspection against FortiGuard’s malware signature database, covering known malware families including obfuscated and packed variants. Inspects HTTP, HTTPS (with SSL inspection), SMTP, FTP, and CIFS traffic.
  • Mobile Malware Detection: scans Android APK and iOS application packages for malicious payloads, supplementing endpoint protection in BYOD environments.
  • FortiGate Cloud Sandbox: unknown files that do not match local AV signatures are submitted to FortiGuard’s cloud sandbox for behavioral analysis. The verdict is returned inline, blocking malicious files before delivery to the endpoint.

Who Buys This

AMP on the FortiWiFi 60F is most useful for small offices and branches where endpoint protection coverage is inconsistent, file downloads from the internet are common, or where devices without endpoint agents share the network. Cloud sandbox is particularly valuable in environments facing ransomware threats, since new ransomware families often have no prior signature.

Activation and Delivery

The contract key arrives electronically within 0-1 business days. Register it on the Fortinet Support portal and assign it to the FortiWiFi 60F serial number. FortiOS begins pulling AV signature updates automatically. For cloud sandbox submissions, configure the behavior in the AntiVirus profile under Security Profiles in FortiOS.

One Service vs. the Bundle

AMP is included in the ATP, UTP, and Enterprise bundles. If IPS and URL filtering are also needed, the UTP bundle (FC-10-W060F-950-02-12) packages all three together with Application Control and FortiCare Premium support at a consolidated price. This standalone AMP service is the correct choice when malware inspection is the specific gap, and other security services are covered separately.

What is the difference between AMP and standard antivirus on the FortiWiFi 60F?

Standard antivirus matches against known malware signatures. AMP adds mobile malware detection and FortiGate Cloud Sandbox, which performs behavioral testing on unknown files that have no existing signature — covering new ransomware and zero-day malware families.

Does FortiGate Cloud Sandbox introduce delays in file transfers?

In inline mode, the file transfer is held while the sandbox verdict is pending, which adds latency proportional to the file analysis time. In proxy mode, the file is delivered first and the verdict is logged for review. The mode is configurable in FortiOS.

Which protocols are scanned by AMP on the FortiWiFi 60F?

AMP inspects HTTP, HTTPS (with SSL deep inspection enabled), SMTP, POP3, IMAP, FTP, and CIFS, depending on the security profile configuration applied to the relevant firewall policies.

Is this subscription enough to protect the network from ransomware?

AMP provides file-level scanning and sandbox analysis, which catches many ransomware payloads in transit. A comprehensive defense also includes network segmentation, regular backups, and endpoint agents. AMP at the firewall is one layer of that defense, not a standalone guarantee.

Is mobile malware detection only for phones, or does it cover other devices?

Mobile malware detection targets APK (Android) and iOS application packages specifically. It supplements endpoint protection for BYOD environments where personal devices may download apps over the corporate network.
