Running a generation 1 FortiGate 7121F on DC plant power means feeding eight separate DC power supplies, and that is the job this part exists for. The FG-7121F-DC-COMBINER is a 1U rack-mounted chassis containing eight hot-swappable DC combiner modules. Each module accepts both the A and the B -48V DC feed and combines them into a single redundant 1+1 output, so every one of the eight PSUs in the FG-7121F-DC keeps power even if an entire plant feed drops.

Telco and service-provider facilities distribute redundant -48V DC as separate A and B plant feeds. Without a combiner, each FortiGate 7121F DC PSU can only sit on one feed, which halves the redundancy story. Racked directly beneath the FortiGate 7121F chassis, the combiner presents both feeds to every PSU: eight output cables run from the eight combiner modules to the corresponding PSU slots above. Fortinet’s system guide notes that generation 2 DC PSUs support 4+4 redundancy natively, so this unit is specifically for generation 1 FG-7121F-DC builds.

Compatibility

Pairs with the generation 1 FortiGate 7121F-DC chassis (FG-7121F-DC-CH) and its FG-7121F-PS-2KDC DC power supplies. It is not required for generation 2 FortiGate 7121F DC systems, and it has no role in AC-powered 7121F builds, which take the 2KAC or shared 2.5KW AC modules instead.
