Fortinet 40G/100G QSFP+ to 4x SFP+/SFP28 Optical Breakout, 1m (FG-TRAN-QSFP-4XSFP)

The FG-TRAN-QSFP-4XSFP lets a 40G QSFP+ or 100G QSFP28 port on a FortiGate or FortiSwitch split into four independent SFP+ (10GbE) or SFP28 (25GbE) links. It is a 1m MPO-to-4xLC parallel breakout over OM3 multimode fiber; the QSFP end has no built-in optics, so each of the four legs needs its own SFP+ or SFP28 transceiver at the far end.

Where this cable fits

This breakout is common when a FortiGate or FortiSwitch has spare 40G/100G QSFP capacity but the downstream devices only need 10GbE or 25GbE — for example, splitting one QSFP+ uplink into four server-facing 10GbE links in the same rack. Because it’s optical (not passive DAC), it also works across slightly longer in-row distances than a fixed-end DAC breakout.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP+ or QSFP28 ports on FortiGate and FortiSwitch appliances that support optical breakout. Requires OM3 (or better) multimode MPO trunk cabling and four SFP+ or SFP28 transceivers at the fan-out end. For 5m reach, use the FG-TRAN-QSFP-4SFP-5.
