Fortinet 100GbE QSFP28 Passive DAC Cable, 3m (FN-CABLE-QSFP28-3)

When two 100-gigabit ports sit a few racks apart, a passive direct-attach cable is far cheaper and cooler-running than a pair of QSFP28 optics. The FN-CABLE-QSFP28-3 is Fortinet’s 3-metre 100GBASE-CR4 twinax DAC, carrying 100GbE across four copper lanes with QSFP28 connectors moulded onto each end. It draws negligible power, needs no separate transceivers, and is Fortinet-qualified so the appliance accepts it as a genuine module.

Where this cable fits

Passive 100GbE DAC is the standard for spine-to-leaf and firewall-to-core links inside a data-center row, where the run stays within a few metres. At 3m it reaches between neighbouring racks. Because it is passive twinax with the QSFP28 optics built in, there is nothing extra to plug in and almost no power or heat added to the cabinet.

Compatibility

Connects two 100GbE QSFP28 ports on QSFP28-capable FortiGate appliances. Both ends are fixed QSFP28, so the whole assembly is a single part number. For a shorter run use the 1m FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1 or 2m FN-CABLE-QSFP28-2; for 5m use the FN-CABLE-QSFP28-5. Past 5m, switch to FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR optics over MPO multimode fiber.
