The FN-CABLE-QSFP28-5 is Fortinet’s longest passive 100GBASE-CR4 direct-attach cable at 5 metres, useful for 100-gigabit links that span several racks in a row. It carries 100GbE over four copper lanes with QSFP28 connectors on both ends, adds virtually no power draw, and requires no separate optics. As a Fortinet-qualified assembly, it is accepted by the appliance like a genuine transceiver.

5m is the practical ceiling for passive 100GbE twinax, spanning multiple racks in a row for spine-to-leaf and firewall-to-core uplinks without stepping up to optics and fiber. It keeps a cross-row 100G link on low-cost copper while power draw stays negligible. For anything longer, QSFP28 SR4 multimode optics are the right move.

Compatibility

Connects two 100GbE QSFP28 ports on QSFP28-capable FortiGate appliances as a single fixed-end assembly. Shorter runs use the 1m FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1, 2m FN-CABLE-QSFP28-2, or 3m FN-CABLE-QSFP28-3; past 5m, switch to FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR optics over MPO multimode fiber.
