The FortiGate 51E is a legacy compact desktop next-generation firewall from Fortinet's 50E series. Built on a purpose-built SoC security processor, it delivers 2.5 Gbps of firewall throughput, 220 Mbps NGFW, 160 Mbps of threat protection and 1,800,000 concurrent sessions over seven GE RJ45 ports (two WAN and five internal/switch), with a 32 GB onboard SSD for local logging and reporting. The 51E reached end of order in 2022 (end of support 2027), so the hardware is no longer stocked; you can still renew its FortiGuard security services and FortiCare support to keep an installed unit protected, using the renewal bundles below.
When you are ready to replace it, the currently-shipping FortiGate 51G is the direct successor — a full-generation jump in firewall throughput, threat protection and SD-WAN performance in the same compact desktop class, also with an onboard SSD — and the FortiGate 70G steps up further with 10 Gbps firewall throughput and higher session capacity.
