What’s in the Box

The FG-201F ships as hardware only; licensing is sold separately. In the box: the firewall appliance, a power cord, rack ears, and a console cable. The unit mounts in a standard 19-inch rack at 1U. Where It Performs Best

The 201F is sized for the segment between a small-branch firewall and a full campus gateway. Its 16-port GE switch block handles flat layer-2 networks common in manufacturing floors, healthcare facilities, and retail chains that have not fully moved to VLAN segmentation. The four 10GE SFP+ uplinks connect directly to a 10G spine switch or ISP handoff without a separate media converter. At 3 Gbps of threat protection, it handles SSL inspection at scale — which is where many mid-tier firewalls stall.

Buying hardware only makes sense in a few scenarios: you are refreshing aging appliances and porting existing FortiCare licenses; you are purchasing for a lab or cold-spare inventory; or your procurement policy separates hardware and software budgets.
