Product description

Running separate PoE switches and firewalls at branch sites adds hardware cost, extra cabling, and additional failure points. The FG-71G-POE-BDL-950-12 removes the switch from that equation: the FortiGate 71G-PoE powers APs, cameras, VoIP phones, and other 802.3at devices directly from the firewall’s four PoE+ ports, while the FortiSP5 processes 2.5 Gbps of IPS traffic in parallel. The bundle adds a 1-year UTP subscription so the branch is inspection-ready from the first power-on.

What the Bundle Includes

The FG-71G-POE-BDL-950-12 combines the FortiGate 71G-PoE appliance with a 1-year FortiCare Premium support contract and a 1-year UTP FortiGuard subscription. Hardware registration and license activation happen in a single step at commissioning — no separate workflows required.

What UTP Covers

UTP activates IPS, anti-malware (AV, botnet domains, CDR, FortiGate Cloud Sandbox), URL and DNS filtering, anti-spam, and application control. Every connected PoE device’s traffic passes through the same FortiOS policy enforcement as wired workstations. FortiCare Premium is included: 24×7 TAC and next-business-day hardware replacement under RMA.

Who It Suits

Small to mid-size branches with APs, IP cameras, VoIP handsets, or IoT devices to power. A 60 W PoE budget covers four 802.3at Class 3 devices at full draw — enough for two enterprise APs and two VoIP phones, or a single high-power AP and three cameras. Sites consolidating a standalone PoE switch and a separate firewall save hardware cost, power draw, and management overhead of an extra device in the stack.

Other Terms and Models

The same FortiGate 71G-PoE hardware is available in 3-year (FG-71G-POE-BDL-950-36) and 5-year (FG-71G-POE-BDL-950-60) UTP bundles for multi-year refresh cycles. For higher throughput or port density, the FortiGate 90G (FG-90G-BDL-950-12) is the next model up. If your site requires DLP and cloud sandbox inspection, the standalone Enterprise subscription can be applied at renewal time.

How many PoE devices can the FG-71G-PoE power simultaneously?
The FortiGate 71G-PoE has four 802.3at (PoE+) ports with a 60 W total power budget. An 802.3at device can draw up to 30 W per port, so the budget supports two full 30 W devices, four 15 W devices, or any combination within the 60 W envelope — typically two enterprise APs plus two VoIP phones.
Does PoE traffic go through the same FortiGuard inspection as wired traffic?
Yes. All traffic on the FortiGate 71G-PoE passes through FortiOS policy enforcement regardless of which port it arrives on. IPS, AV, URL filtering, and application control apply uniformly to PoE-connected devices — there is no bypass path for endpoints powered through PoE ports.
Can the FG-71G-POE-BDL-950-12 run in an HA pair?
Yes. The FortiGate 71G-PoE supports Active-Active, Active-Passive, and FGCP clustering. For a two-node redundant pair, both units should carry the same license tier. The second node would be another FortiGate 71G-PoE connected via the dedicated HA ports.
Is UTP sufficient for a branch with PoE devices, or should I choose Enterprise?
For most branches, UTP covers the core threats: IPS, AV, URL and DNS filtering, anti-spam, and application control — applied to all traffic including PoE endpoints. Enterprise adds DLP, cloud sandbox for zero-day file analysis, Attack Surface Security, and OT Security. If your branch handles regulated data or has OT endpoints requiring classification, Enterprise is worth considering at renewal.
Does the FortiGate 71G-PoE include local SSD storage?
Yes — it includes a 64 GB SSD for local traffic log storage and configuration backup. This keeps your log history intact during FortiAnalyzer connectivity interruptions and supports local report generation without sending all data off-device to a central log server.
