Four PoE/PoE+ ports (IEEE 802.3af/at, 60 W shared budget) power downstream FortiAPs, IP phones, and cameras without a separate PoE switch. The FortiGate 71G-PoE is a current-generation model, actively sold and fully supported with FortiGuard and FortiCare subscriptions available for 1, 3, and 5-year terms.
The 71G-PoE adds a 64 GB onboard SSD to the 70G-PoE for local logging and reporting. Performance, PoE capability (4x ports, 60 W budget), and all other specs are identical. Choose the 71G-PoE when you want both PoE power delivery and on-box log storage without deploying a separate FortiAnalyzer.
Both have a 64 GB SSD and the same SP5 ASIC performance. The 71G-PoE replaces four internal GE RJ45 ports with PoE/PoE+ ports (IEEE 802.3af/at, up to 30 W per port, 60 W total budget). Choose the 71G when you only need standard data ports; choose the 71G-PoE when you also need to power FortiAPs, phones, or cameras from the firewall.
The 71G-PoE has four PoE/PoE+ ports with a 60 W shared budget. A typical FortiAP draws 10–20 W, so you can power 3–4 APs depending on model. FortiGate manages up to 96 FortiAPs total; the PoE ports power only those 4 directly connected.
Most mid-size branches choose UTP (Unified Threat Protection) for IPS, anti-malware, web and DNS filtering, and antispam. ATP covers core threat prevention only. Enterprise adds DLP, AI inline malware prevention, and the full FortiGuard SASE service set. All include FortiCare Premium support.
