Ten copper ports, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, and FortiSP5 processing — the FortiWiFi 70G (FWF-70G-A) delivers a complete wireless branch firewall in a single fanless desktop unit. Without the antenna cluster of a separate access point and the management overhead of a dedicated wireless controller, the 70G covers LAN switching, SD-WAN, and 802.11ax wireless under one policy framework running FortiOS. This is the hardware-only SKU: no FortiGuard subscription, no FortiCare, no onboard storage. Licenses are ordered separately as FC-10-FW70G- subscriptions.

What Ships

Hardware only. The box includes the FWF-70G-A appliance, three external Wi-Fi antennas (SMA connectors), an AC power adapter (100–240V, 50/60 Hz), and a quick-start guide. There is no internal SSD in the 70G — local log storage requires FortiGate Cloud or a FortiAnalyzer. No FortiGuard licenses are included; services are activated separately.

Where the Integrated Wireless Pays Off

Distributed branch locations with 20 to 60 wireless users are a natural fit. The built-in Wi-Fi 6 controller eliminates the need for a standalone AP controller when one radio covers the floor. The two FortiLink ports let you manage up to 24 FortiSwitches as a logical extension of the firewall, all from the same FortiOS console with no separate switch management platform required. SSL inspection at 1.4 Gbps keeps encrypted traffic transparent even where most user sessions are HTTPS. For remote access, G-series devices use Universal ZTNA in place of SSL-VPN (not supported from FortiOS 7.4.4 onwards on 70G); IPsec VPN at 7.1 Gbps remains fully available for site-to-site and client tunnels.

Hardware Alone vs a Licensed Unit

Without an active FortiGuard subscription, the Wi-Fi radio creates SSIDs and the firewall routes traffic, but IPS signatures, URL filtering, and malware scanning stay inactive. FortiGuard threat intelligence does not apply until a license is registered. For lab evaluation, proof-of-concept setups, or replacing a unit already covered by an active contract, hardware-only is the right SKU. For live branch deployments, the UTP bundle (FC-10-FW70G-950-02-12) is the entry point for complete NGFW protection with FortiCare Premium support included.
