Product description

Fibre-connected offices that also need wireless coverage typically end up buying a separate AP or settling for a firewall without fibre capability. The FortiWiFi 50G-SFP solves both requirements at once: a GE SFP slot for a fibre WAN uplink, a full NGFW stack powered by FortiSP5, and an integrated Wi-Fi 6 dual-band radio, all in a fanless desktop enclosure. The FWF-50G-SFP-A-BDL-950-12 pairs this hardware with a 1-year Unified Threat Protection subscription, activating IPS, AV, URL and DNS filtering, Application Control, DLP, OT security, and FortiCare Premium support on the same day the appliance ships.

What the Bundle Includes

The FWF-50G-SFP-A-BDL-950-12 ships the FortiWiFi 50G-SFP appliance with a 1-year FortiCare Premium support contract and a 1-year UTP FortiGuard license. Hardware and the paired license serial numbers arrive together, pre-matched, so activation requires no manual cross-referencing. An SFP transceiver for the WAN port is not included and should be ordered to match the fibre type at the install site.

What UTP Covers

Unified Threat Protection adds Anti-Spam, Data Loss Prevention, and OT/IoT Security on top of the base ATP service set (IPS, AV, URL/DNS filtering, Application Control). The result is a security stack that inspects traffic at Layer 7, blocks phishing links and malware downloads, controls which cloud applications staff can use, and flags unusual device behaviour on the LAN. The table below maps the three subscription tiers for the FortiWiFi 50G platform.

FortiGuard Service ATP UTP Enterprise
IPS + Anti-Malware (AV)
URL / DNS / Video Filtering
Application Control
Anti-Spam
Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
OT / IoT Security
AI Inline Malware Prevention
Attack Surface Security
FortiCloud Log Retention
FortiConverter Migration
FortiCare Support Tier Essentials Premium Premium

Who This Appliance Fits

The FWF-50G-SFP-A is the right choice for branch offices where the ISP delivers fibre over an SFP or LC connector rather than an RJ45 copper handoff, and where integrating wireless into the firewall reduces the device count on the shelf. It suits small Canadian offices, professional services firms, and retail locations that have moved to a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) or fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) connection. The shared-media WAN port accepts either the RJ45 WAN or the SFP, giving you flexibility if the WAN type changes without replacing the appliance.

Other Terms and Models

This listing covers the 1-year UTP term. The same hardware is available with a 3-year license (FWF-50G-SFP-A-BDL-950-36) or a 5-year license (FWF-50G-SFP-A-BDL-950-60). Multi-year bundles reduce total cost over the appliance lifecycle. For organizations that need IoT scanning, AI malware prevention, and FortiConverter, the Enterprise variant (FWF-50G-SFP-A-BDL-809-12) covers those additional services. Sites with higher throughput requirements or more LAN port density can step up to the FortiWiFi 70G-A series, which runs the same FortiSP5 platform at greater scale.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca ships the FWF-50G-SFP-A-BDL-950-12 from Canadian stock with free delivery in 0 to 1 business days. We are a Fortinet Select Partner, so licensing, renewals, and FortiCare cases are handled directly, without routing through a distributor. If you need an SFP transceiver for the WAN port alongside this appliance, the Fortinet FN-TRAN-SFP+SR (multimode LC) is a compatible option we carry. Contact us to confirm fibre type and distance before adding a transceiver to the order.

Which SFP transceivers are compatible with the FWF-50G-SFP-A WAN port?
The GE SFP slot accepts Fortinet-compatible 1GE SFP transceivers. The FN-TRAN-SFP+SR (multimode, 850 nm, up to 300 m) is a common choice for in-building runs or short campus distances. For single-mode runs to an ISP handoff in a telecom room, a 1GE SFP single-mode module rated for the target distance is appropriate. Using non-Fortinet SFP modules may trigger compatibility warnings in FortiOS depending on the firmware version.
Does the SFP WAN port and the RJ45 WAN port operate simultaneously?
No. The WAN interface is shared media, meaning the SFP slot and the RJ45 WAN port are on the same logical interface and only one is active at a time. If an SFP transceiver is inserted and a link is detected, the SFP takes priority. If you need dual-WAN redundancy, the second WAN path should use one of the LAN RJ45 ports reassigned as a WAN interface in FortiOS.
What does the FortiLink port provide on this appliance?
The FortiLink port is a dedicated GE RJ45 port for connecting a FortiSwitch. When a FortiSwitch is connected on FortiLink, it is managed directly from the FortiGate GUI using FortiOS, including VLAN configuration, port profiles, and switch health monitoring. This eliminates the need for a separate switch management interface and makes FortiGate/FortiSwitch a unified LAN-edge solution managed from a single pane of glass.
How does UTP handle data loss prevention on a small branch firewall?
FortiGuard DLP on the FortiWiFi 50G inspects outbound traffic for data patterns matching configurable rules: credit card number formats, social insurance numbers, file types, or custom regex. When a match is detected, the firewall can block the transfer, log it for review, or alert the administrator. DLP operates within the SSL inspection pipeline, so it also catches exfiltration attempts over HTTPS without requiring a separate proxy appliance.
Can this appliance replace a separate wireless router at a small office?
Yes. The integrated Wi-Fi 6 dual-radio access point supports multiple SSIDs, guest network isolation, WPA3 security, and MU-MIMO. For offices with fewer than 30 wireless clients, the built-in radio handles the full wireless load without a dedicated AP. Larger offices or multi-floor layouts can add FortiAP units to extend coverage, all managed from the same FortiGate interface that handles the firewall, VPN, and SD-WAN policies.
