The FortiWiFi 50G-SFP combines the FortiGate 50G-SFP’s GE SFP WAN port with an integrated Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) access point on the FortiSP5 platform. It delivers 1.1 Gbps threat protection and 5 Gbps firewall throughput while supporting both a GE SFP fibre WAN and a GE RJ45 WAN for SD-WAN dual-WAN failover — ideal for branch sites that receive an SFP-based ISP handoff and also need wireless client access.
The GE SFP port connects directly to GPON ONT, metro Ethernet, or SFP-based fibre circuits without a media converter. The Wi-Fi 6 radio delivers up to 1,201 Mbps at 5 GHz via MU-MIMO 2×2. FortiLink manages up to 8 FortiSwitches and 16 FortiAPs from a single FortiOS console.

Yes. The FortiWiFi 50G-SFP is a current-generation G-series model built on Fortinet’s FortiSP5 ASIC. It is not end-of-life and is fully supported with active FortiGuard and FortiCare subscriptions available in 1, 3, and 5-year terms.
Both models share the same FortiSP5 platform and identical performance. The FortiWiFi 50G-SFP adds a GE SFP port alongside the standard GE RJ45 WAN port, making it the right choice when your ISP delivers an SFP handoff (GPON, metro Ethernet, fibre) or when you want an SFP-based secondary WAN for SD-WAN dual-WAN failover.
Yes. FortiOS SD-WAN supports both WAN interfaces in active-active load balancing or configured for automatic failover. You can set the GE SFP as primary (fibre) and the GE RJ45 WAN as backup, or use both in a load-sharing policy based on latency, jitter, or packet loss.
