Product description

Running a FortiGate 1000D that still handles production traffic? Its malware defenses are only as good as the signatures feeding them. The 1-year AMP subscription (FC-10-01006-100-02-12) keeps the antivirus engine, mobile malware database, cloud sandbox integration, and AI-based heuristic detection current for another full year. The 1000D is a legacy platform, but the threats targeting the networks it protects are not legacy at all.

What Advanced Malware Protection Covers

The AMP subscription activates the following FortiGuard file content security services on the FortiGate 1000D:

  • Antivirus (AV) — real-time signature engine updates from FortiGuard’s Global Threat Intelligence network, detecting and blocking known viruses, malware, and ransomware in transit.
  • Mobile Malware Protection — signature-based and behavioral detection targeting threats that target mobile devices passing through the gateway.
  • FortiGate Cloud Sandbox — unknown or suspicious files are submitted to the FortiGate Cloud Sandbox for behavioral analysis; a verdict is returned before the file reaches its destination.
  • Virus Outbreak Protection — queries FortiGuard hash signature databases in real time to catch zero-day threats before formal signature updates arrive.
  • AI-based Heuristic AV — machine-learning engine analyzes file characteristics and behavior to detect unknown malware variants not yet catalogued in the signature database.
  • Content Disarm & Reconstruct (CDR) — strips active content (macros, embedded scripts) from incoming documents and rebuilds clean versions, blocking embedded exploits without blocking legitimate files.
  • Botnet Domains — DNS-layer blocking of known command-and-control (C2) domains used by botnets and malware distribution infrastructure.

Who Needs This Subscription

This SKU is for organizations still running the FortiGate 1000D in production. A lapsed AMP subscription means the appliance enforces security policies using outdated signatures — a meaningful exposure for networks that handle large file volumes, email traffic, or mobile device access. Typical purchasing scenarios include:

  • Annual renewal of an expiring AMP contract to avoid a gap in malware signature currency
  • Adding AMP to a 1000D that previously ran only with FortiCare support or IPS
  • Maintaining consistent threat coverage across branch and campus locations that still use 1000D units

Activation and Delivery

This is an electronic license with no hardware component. After purchase, a FortiGuard contract key is delivered by email within 0–1 business days. The key is registered to the serial number of the FortiGate 1000D through the Fortinet Support Portal (support.fortinet.com). Once registered and synchronized, FortiOS pulls updated AMP signatures automatically on the configured update interval. No shipping, no physical media, no geographic restrictions on registration.

AMP Service vs. the Full Security Bundles

The AMP subscription covers file content security — antivirus, sandbox, heuristic detection, and CDR. It does not include network-layer IPS, URL/DNS filtering, or enterprise cloud management services. Upgrading to a bundle adds those layers under a single contract. The table below shows what each bundle tier includes:

Security Service ATP Bundle UTP Bundle Enterprise Bundle
Advanced Malware Protection (AMP)
IPS (Intrusion Prevention)
URL, DNS & Video Filtering
Anti-Spam
DLP + Attack Surface Security
FortiCare Premium Support

If the 1000D currently has a FortiCare contract but no malware coverage, this AMP SKU fills that exact gap without the cost of a full bundle. If broader network protection is the goal, the UTP bundle (FC-10-01006-950-02-12) or Enterprise bundle (FC-10-01006-809-02-12) combine AMP with IPS, URL filtering, and FortiCare in a single term.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca processes FortiGuard subscriptions for legacy hardware the same way it handles current-generation SKUs. The contract key is delivered electronically, and when registered, it extends from the existing contract end date on the device — no lapse, no overlap. For co-term quotes that align AMP with other services already on the 1000D, or for multi-unit orders, use the quote request form and include the appliance serial number. We are an authorized Fortinet Select Partner and can submit the quote directly through the partner portal.

Is the FortiGate 1000D still eligible for FortiGuard subscriptions?
Yes. Although the FortiGate 1000D is end-of-life hardware, Fortinet continues to sell and activate FortiGuard subscriptions including AMP (FC-10-01006-100-02-12). The subscription is registered through the Fortinet Support Portal using the device serial number and extends malware protection for the contracted term.

Does the AMP subscription include IPS or web filtering?
No. AMP (svc code 100) covers file content security: antivirus, mobile malware, cloud sandbox, CDR, virus outbreak protection, and heuristic AV. IPS requires a separate IPS subscription (svc code 108) or a bundle (ATP or higher). URL and DNS filtering require the Web Security subscription (svc code 112) or UTP/Enterprise bundle. AMP does not activate those network-layer services on its own.

Can I add AMP to a FortiGate 1000D that already has a FortiCare contract?
Yes. FortiCare and FortiGuard AMP are separate contracts that run concurrently under the same serial number. If the 1000D already has an active FortiCare Premium (FC-10-01006-247-02-12) contract, this AMP subscription is registered alongside it in the Fortinet Support Portal without affecting the FortiCare expiry or term.

Where is the license delivered and how long does it take?
The contract key is delivered by email, typically within 0–1 business days of order. This subscription is not tied to any geographic region — the license key can be applied to any FortiGate 1000D serial number registered in the Fortinet Support Portal, regardless of where the appliance is located. No physical shipping is involved.

What happens to the 1000D if the AMP subscription expires?
Once AMP expires, FortiOS stops receiving FortiGuard signature updates for the antivirus engine, mobile malware database, and cloud sandbox. The appliance continues to run and enforce policies, but with static, outdated signatures. For a 1000D handling volume traffic, this represents a real detection gap. Renewing before the expiry date keeps signature currency continuous with no manual reactivation required.
