What DLP covers

FortiGuard DLP provides pattern-based and fingerprint-based content inspection on traffic passing through the FortiGate 101F:

• Pattern matching: FortiGuard-maintained libraries of predefined patterns identify common sensitive data types including credit card numbers, Social Insurance Numbers (SIN), health record formats, and custom regex patterns defined by policy. Matching content is blocked, logged, or quarantined per the configured action.
• File fingerprinting: documents can be registered as sensitive. The FortiGate 101F computes and stores a fingerprint; attempts to upload or email matching content are detected regardless of filename or format.
• Protocol coverage: inspection applies across HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, SMTP/SMTPS, and IMAP, covering the common data exfiltration paths in typical enterprise environments.

Who needs DLP on the FortiGate 101F

This service is relevant for mid-size organizations subject to data protection regulations: PCI-DSS environments handling cardholder data, healthcare organizations under PIPEDA or provincial privacy obligations, and financial services firms with restrictions on data mobility. The 101F’s local SSD also supports storing DLP violation logs on-device for forensic review or compliance audit trail requirements. A standalone DLP subscription fits when the device already carries IPS, AMP, and URL filtering subscriptions and DLP is the remaining gap to close.

DLP vs. the subscription bundles

Activation and delivery

The license is issued electronically and registered to the FortiGate 101F serial number via the Fortinet Support portal. DLP pattern libraries and fingerprint update feeds activate for the 12-month term. No hardware ships. A registered FortiGate 101F is required before activation.
