Product description

Migrating a production firewall rarely goes smoothly when the rule base is rebuilt from scratch. The FortiGate 1801F 1-Year FortiConverter Service (FC-10-F18F1-189-02-12) hands that job to Fortinet’s own migration team: submit the source configuration from the retiring firewall, and Fortinet returns a converted, ready-to-import FortiOS configuration built specifically for the FortiGate 1801F. It is a one-time engagement, not a recurring subscription, and it carries no hardware.

What this service covers

FortiConverter takes a configuration export from an existing FortiGate, FortiWiFi, or a supported third-party firewall (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Check Point, and others depending on the current FortiConverter tool version) and converts it into a FortiOS configuration file matched to the FortiGate 1801F. The scope includes:

  • Interface and NAT mapping: source interfaces and NAT rules translated to FortiOS syntax and object structure.
  • Firewall policy and address objects: existing rule logic, address groups, and service definitions rebuilt as native FortiGate objects rather than left as raw imports.
  • Static routes: routing tables carried over so day-one connectivity matches the previous firewall’s behavior.
  • Summary report: a conversion report documenting what moved cleanly, what needed manual attention, and the overall object count, useful for change-control sign-off.

The output is a file you upload to the FortiGate 1801F yourself; Fortinet does not remote into the appliance as part of this SKU.

Who needs the standalone service

This fits teams replacing an aging firewall, consolidating from a third-party vendor, or swapping in a FortiGate 1801F ahead of an end-of-life deadline, where hand-rebuilding hundreds of policy objects is the alternative. It is most valuable when the source configuration is large or has accumulated years of undocumented rule sprawl. A brand-new deployment with a small, clean policy set may not need it; a lift-and-shift from a busy edge or data center firewall usually does.

How it fits with the FortiGate 1801F’s other services

FortiConverter is independent of the FortiGate 1801F’s security subscription stack. It does not appear inside the UTP or Enterprise bundles and has no bearing on FortiCare support levels. Once the 1801F is running on its converted configuration, the appliance still needs its own security services (UTP or Enterprise subscription) and a FortiCare support tier (Premium or Elite) purchased separately, the same as it would with a hand-built configuration.

Activation and delivery

This is a service engagement, not a license key. After purchase, you submit the source firewall’s configuration export through the FortiConverter process; Fortinet’s team performs the conversion and returns the finished FortiOS file along with the summary report. Nothing ships, and there is no ongoing renewal, since the service is consumed once per purchase.

FortiGate 1801F FortiConverter Service – Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include the FortiGate 1801F hardware?
No. This is a one-time configuration conversion service only. The FortiGate 1801F appliance is sold separately.
Which firewalls can FortiConverter convert from?
FortiConverter supports migrations from existing FortiGate and FortiWiFi units as well as several third-party platforms, including Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, and Check Point, depending on the current version of the FortiConverter tool. Confirm compatibility for your specific source platform and firmware version before ordering.
Is this a recurring subscription like FortiCare or UTP?
No. FortiConverter is a one-time service consumed when the conversion is delivered. It does not renew and is unrelated to the FortiGate 1801F’s UTP, Enterprise, or FortiCare subscriptions, which are sold and renewed independently.
Can I purchase this from outside Canada?
Yes. FortiConverter is delivered electronically as a service engagement and is available to customers worldwide. No physical shipment is involved.
What do I receive at the end of the service?
A converted FortiOS configuration file built for the FortiGate 1801F, ready to import, plus a summary report covering what was migrated and any items that need manual review before go-live.
