Fortinet FortiGate 1801F OT Security Service, 1-Year (FC-10-F18F1-159-02-12)

Fortinet folds OT protection into the FortiGate line as an à la carte FortiGuard service rather than a bundle line item, so the FortiGate 1801F can sit in front of a plant network without forcing an Enterprise-level contract onto every port. FC-10-F18F1-159-02-12 is exactly that: a 1-year OT Security subscription for the FortiGate 1801F, sold on its own.

What it covers

The service adds three capabilities that a standard FortiGuard bundle does not include. OT Device Detection keeps an up-to-date signature package that identifies PLCs, RTUs, HMIs and other industrial assets on the network and reports their metadata to the FortiGate. OT Vulnerability Correlation & Virtual Patching maps known exploits against those detected devices and lets the FortiGate apply a virtual patch through NAC policy, protecting equipment that can’t be firmware-updated on a maintenance window. OT Application Control and IPS adds signature coverage for industrial protocols and applications (Modbus, DNP3, and similar), on top of the FortiGate’s standard IPS engine.

Who needs it

This is a fit for sites running the FortiGate 1801F as a segmentation or perimeter firewall between IT and OT zones: utilities, manufacturing floors, water treatment, and any environment with SCADA or ICS traffic behind the appliance. It is not required on a pure data-center or branch deployment with no industrial protocols in scope, and it is separate from the Enterprise, UTP, and ATP FortiGuard bundles, which do not include OT signatures.
