• Indicators of Compromise and Outbreak Detection: the IOC service flags hosts showing signs of compromise, and FortiGuard Outbreak Detection correlates your logs against newly tracked threat campaigns.

Who needs it

This fits an organization running a FortiGate 31G that has to keep logs beyond what the device holds: a business with retention or audit obligations, an MSP that owes clients monthly reporting, or any site that wants real visibility without standing up and maintaining a FortiAnalyzer appliance. If the 31G sits at a remote location, cloud logging also means the records are off-box and reachable even if the site loses connectivity.

Activation and delivery

The entitlement is issued electronically and registered to a specific FortiGate 31G by serial number. Once activated, the firewall is pointed at FortiAnalyzer Cloud and begins forwarding logs, with the one-year retention and analytics window running from that point. Nothing is shipped, and a functioning 31G is needed before the service can be turned on.

Logging vs. live monitoring

FortiAnalyzer Cloud stores and analyzes what your 31G records; it does not put human eyes on those events in real time. Threat blocking itself still comes from the UTP or Enterprise FortiGuard bundle on the device.
