Product description

Every network session passing through the FGR-60F-3G4G is a candidate for exploitation if IPS is not watching it. The FC-10-F60FI-108-02-12 keeps FortiGuard IPS active for one year on the FortiGateRugged 60F-3G4G, inspecting traffic in real time using an AI/ML-trained signature engine that covers tens of thousands of known exploits, protocol anomalies, and evasion techniques.

What FortiGuard IPS Covers

The IPS engine inspects inbound and outbound traffic at line speed, matching packet flows against FortiGuard’s signature database. Coverage spans application exploits, buffer overflows, protocol anomalies, denial-of-service patterns, and command injection attempts across dozens of application protocols. The AI/ML component refines signature accuracy over time and contributes to virtual patching: when a new CVE is published, FortiGuard typically releases an IPS signature within hours, blocking network-level exploitation attempts before the affected systems can be patched. For OT environments, IPS also works as the delivery mechanism for the OT Security Service’s virtual patching features — the two subscriptions complement each other directly.

Who Needs This

The FGR-60F-3G4G sits at network boundaries: between OT and IT segments, between a remote site and the internet via its embedded 3G/4G modem, or as a hardened perimeter device in substations and manufacturing floors. At any of those boundaries, IPS provides the inline blocking layer that keeps known exploits from reaching endpoints that may not be patchable on a regular schedule.

Where This Service Fits in the Bundle Matrix

IPS appears in all three FortiGuard bundle tiers. The standalone license covers environments renewing services individually or adding IPS to a device that previously ran without it.

Activation and Delivery

Electronic delivery. After ordering from DataCenter360.ca, a FortiGuard registration token arrives by email within 0 to 1 business days. Register it on the Fortinet Support Portal against your FGR-60F-3G4G serial number; IPS signature database updates resume automatically.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca is a Fortinet Select Partner and MSSP in Canada. We supply FortiGuard IPS licenses for current and legacy FortiGate models electronically, without minimums or delay. If your FGR-60F-3G4G environment needs IPS alongside OT Security, FortiCare, and DLP, we can package them into one renewal order to simplify the cycle.

How often are IPS signatures updated?

FortiGuard distributes IPS signature updates through its global network, typically several times per day. Updates are pulled automatically by the FortiGateRugged on a configurable schedule. Critical signatures for newly published CVEs are often available within hours of the vulnerability disclosure.

Does IPS work on OT protocol traffic like Modbus or DNP3?

Standard IPS signatures cover common IT protocols and application-layer attacks. OT-specific IPS signatures covering industrial protocols like Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, and PROFINET are delivered through the FortiGuard OT Security Service (FC-10-F60FI-159-02-12), not the base IPS subscription. For full OT protocol coverage, both services should be active.

Can IPS block threats on the cellular LTE uplink?

Yes. IPS operates on all traffic passing through the FortiGateRugged’s policy engine, including traffic entering and leaving via the embedded 3G/4G interface. Inspection applies regardless of the uplink interface type.

Is virtual patching included with the IPS subscription?

Yes. Virtual patching is an IPS feature. When FortiGuard releases an IPS signature for a known CVE, the FortiGate can block exploitation attempts at the network level in IPS blocking mode. This is the primary mechanism for protecting unpatched endpoints, including legacy OT devices with long patch cycles.

What happens if the IPS subscription expires?

When the IPS license lapses, the FortiGate stops receiving new IPS signature updates. Existing signatures remain on the device but become stale as new exploits emerge. The IPS engine continues to run with decreasing effectiveness. Renewing before expiry avoids a signature gap and maintains continuous coverage.
