Product description

Data loss events rarely announce themselves in advance. Sensitive files move through email, web uploads, and cloud sync tools, often without any visible red flag until the damage is done. The FortiGate 50G 1-Year FortiGuard Data Loss Prevention Service (FC-10-GT50G-589-02-12) gives the FG-50G a trained eye for those movements, inspecting outbound traffic against predefined data patterns and blocking transfers that match sensitive content profiles.

What FortiGuard Data Loss Prevention Covers

The DLP service feeds the FortiGate’s deep packet inspection engine with Fortinet’s continuously updated pattern library. When traffic crosses the firewall, the service checks it against fingerprints for regulated data types including credit card numbers, social insurance numbers, healthcare identifiers, and source code fragments. Matched traffic can be blocked, logged, or quarantined depending on the policy configured. Inspection covers HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, and common messaging protocols.

Who Needs This Service

Organizations handling regulated data benefit most from a dedicated DLP license. Healthcare clinics, financial service firms, accounting practices, and any organization subject to PIPEDA, PCI-DSS, or sector-specific privacy rules need to track what leaves the network. If your team works with information that cannot leave the perimeter without authorization, the DLP service turns the FortiGate 50G into an active checkpoint rather than a passive recorder.

Activation and Delivery

This is a subscription license delivered electronically. After purchase, DataCenter360.ca provides a license key that activates the DLP engine on the registered FortiGate 50G. Delivery typically completes within 0–1 business days. There is no hardware to ship. The 1-year subscription begins on the activation date.

One Service vs. a Full Bundle

The standalone DLP service is the right choice when a specific compliance gap is the driver. If the FortiGate 50G also lacks web filtering, IPS, and malware scanning, a UTP or Enterprise bundle subscription covers all of those services together. The 1-year UTP subscription (FC-10-GT50G-950-02-12) or Enterprise subscription (FC-10-GT50G-809-02-12) provide the full-coverage alternative when multiple gaps need to be closed at once.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca is a Fortinet Select Partner and MSSP operating out of Ontario. We carry the full FortiGuard service catalog for FortiGate hardware and fulfill orders to customers across Canada and internationally. Licensing is registered directly under your FortiCare account, meaning renewals and support portal access remain in your name. Contact us before ordering if you have questions about which coverage tier fits your compliance requirements.

Is the FortiGuard DLP service available outside Canada?
Yes. This is a subscription license with worldwide e-delivery. DataCenter360.ca delivers licensing keys electronically to any country. There are no geographic restrictions on the license itself.

What data types does FortiGuard DLP detect out of the box?
The predefined DLP sensor library includes patterns for credit card numbers (PCI), social insurance and social security numbers, healthcare identifiers, Canadian and US driver licence formats, IBAN and SWIFT codes, and source code. Custom expressions can also be defined in the FortiGate DLP policy to cover proprietary data formats.

Does DLP inspection affect throughput on the FortiGate 50G?
Deep packet inspection consumes firewall processing resources. The FortiGate 50G is rated for up to 800 Mbps firewall throughput; with full UTM features including DLP active, throughput figures are lower. Fortinet’s official datasheet lists the NGFW and threat-inspection throughput values for sizing purposes.

Can the DLP service be added to a FortiGate 50G that already has a UTP or Enterprise bundle?
Yes. UTP and Enterprise bundles do not include the standalone DLP sensor service. Adding this SKU alongside an active bundle subscription enables DLP inspection on top of the existing coverage without disrupting other FortiGuard services.

What happens when the 1-year subscription expires?
DLP pattern updates from FortiGuard stop at the expiry date and the engine falls back to locally cached signatures. To maintain current threat pattern coverage, renew before expiry. DataCenter360.ca can provide a renewal quote in advance of the expiration date.
