Product description

Piloting OT security, evaluating coverage before a longer commitment, or bridging a gap between expired and renewed Enterprise subscriptions all point to a 1-year term. The FortiGate 50G-SFP 1-Year FortiGuard OT Security Service (FC-10-F50GS-159-02-12) enables industrial device visibility, vulnerability-based virtual patching, and OT protocol signatures on a FortiGate 50G-SFP for twelve months. Subscription only, no hardware, electronic delivery to any country.

What OT Security covers

FortiGuard OT Security activates three interconnected capabilities on the FortiGate 50G-SFP:

  • OT Device Detection: continuously updated device signatures identify OT hardware from major vendors (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA controllers, industrial switches) as they pass traffic through the FortiGate 50G-SFP. Identification is passive and agentless, so existing OT equipment is not disrupted.
  • OT Vulnerability Correlation and Virtual Patching: the service cross-references detected device profiles against FortiGuard’s vulnerability database. Where firmware patches are not feasible, the FortiGate creates IPS-based virtual patches targeting the specific CVEs, enforcing protection at the network boundary instead.
  • OT Application Control and IPS Signatures: extends the FortiGate’s deep-packet inspection to include industrial protocol signatures covering Modbus, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, IEC 61850, and other common OT communication standards. Policies and anomaly detection apply within these protocols, not just at the IP layer.

Full OT Security features on the FortiGate 50G-SFP require FortiOS 7.4.1 or later.

Who uses the 1-year term

The 1-year term is the entry point for organizations adding OT Security to an existing FortiGate 50G-SFP deployment for the first time. It suits environments with annual budget cycles, sites evaluating the benefit of OT coverage before renewing at 3 or 5 years, and deployments where the OT footprint is expected to change significantly within the next year. It is also the standard renewal format for existing OT Security subscribers.

Activation and delivery

The license delivers electronically after purchase. Registration occurs through the Fortinet support portal using the FortiGate 50G-SFP serial number. FortiGuard OT device detection and vulnerability signature updates begin pushing to the appliance immediately after registration and continue for the full 12-month term. The subscription period starts from the registration date.

OT Security standalone vs. the Enterprise bundle

OT Security is available exclusively in the Enterprise subscription bundle for the FortiGate 50G-SFP. The standalone service makes sense when the appliance already has IPS, AMP, URL filtering, and other FortiGuard services in place through active subscriptions. The table below shows where OT Security sits across the available bundle tiers:

FortiGuard Service ATP UTP Enterprise
IPS
Advanced Malware Protection (AMP)
URL / DNS Filtering
Anti-Spam
Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
OT Security
FortiCare Premium (24×7 support)

For a FortiGate 50G-SFP with no active FortiGuard subscriptions, the Enterprise subscription (FC-10-F50GS-809-02-12) is the more direct path, covering OT Security alongside IPS, AMP, URL/DNS filtering, DLP, and FortiCare Premium in one purchase. For longer-term planning, the 3-year (FC-10-F50GS-159-02-36) or 5-year (FC-10-F50GS-159-02-60) versions of this service reduce renewal overhead.

FortiGate 50G-SFP OT Security Service 1-Year – Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include the FortiGate 50G-SFP hardware?
No. The FC-10-F50GS-159-02-12 is a 1-year subscription license only. It registers to a FortiGate 50G-SFP you already own or purchase separately. No hardware ships with this order.
Which bundle tier includes OT Security for the FortiGate 50G-SFP?
OT Security is included only in the Enterprise subscription bundle. ATP and UTP bundles do not include it. This standalone license activates only the OT Security layer; the Enterprise subscription (FC-10-F50GS-809-02-12) adds OT Security together with IPS, AMP, URL/DNS filtering, DLP, and FortiCare Premium.
Can I order this from outside Canada?
Yes. Fortinet subscription licenses are delivered electronically and available worldwide. No physical shipment is required. DataCenter360.ca serves customers in any country.
Does OT Security replace IPS for OT traffic, or work alongside it?
OT Security works alongside the standard FortiGuard IPS subscription, not in place of it. The OT IPS signatures extend the base IPS engine with industrial protocol-specific rules. For full protection on OT-connected networks, both IPS and OT Security are recommended, along with AMP and URL/DNS filtering. The Enterprise subscription includes all of these services.
Is virtual patching automatic once this license is applied?
Virtual patching requires FortiGuard OT Security to be active (covered by this license), the FortiGate to have identified the OT device by signature, and an appropriate IPS policy configured on the appliance to enforce the virtual patch. The service provides the intelligence and signatures; the administrator applies the IPS policy that uses them.
