Moving to a FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is far less painful when you do not have to rebuild every rule by hand. FC-10-W50GD-189-02-12 is a one-year FortiConverter entitlement that covers a guided, one-time migration of an existing firewall configuration onto the 50G-DSL’s FortiOS.

What this service covers

FortiConverter takes a configuration from a third-party firewall and translates it into FortiOS. Address objects, services, NAT rules and security policies are mapped across so the new device starts from your real ruleset rather than a blank slate, which trims both the migration time and the chance of a missed rule.

Who needs it

This is for anyone replacing an incumbent firewall with a 50G-DSL who already has a sizeable policy set worth keeping. A greenfield install with a handful of rules usually does not need it; an established network migrating off another vendor is where it earns its place.

Activation and delivery

Delivered electronically, with nothing shipped. The entitlement is registered to the 50G-DSL and used to run the conversion during your migration project. It is a one-time service rather than an always-on subscription, so plan to use it around the cutover window.

After the migration

FortiConverter gets the policy onto the box; it does not provide ongoing threat protection. Once the 50G-DSL is live, a UTP or Enterprise bundle keeps its FortiGuard services current, and a Managed FortiGate (NOC) subscription is an option if you would rather Fortinet handle policy changes from then on. Those are sold separately for the 50G-DSL.
