Product description

An industrial NGFW rated to IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613, built around Fortinet’s FortiSP5 ASIC with a single 5G modem, dual-SIM failover, passive GPS, and redundant 12V-54V DC inputs — the FortiGate Rugged 50G-5G is designed for OT environments where hardware failures aren’t acceptable and cellular connectivity is the only reliable WAN option. The FC-10-FR5G5-950-02-12 keeps that hardware’s threat intelligence current for a full year with the Unified Threat Protection bundle.

What UTP Activates on the FGR-50G-5G

The following FortiGuard services go live when this license is applied:

  • IPS — AI/ML-powered intrusion prevention with FortiGuard Labs updates, covering both IT and OT traffic patterns
  • Advanced Malware Protection — AV, mobile malware definitions, cloud sandbox detonation, and heuristic AI detection
  • Application Control — identify and enforce policy on industrial protocols and standard enterprise applications
  • URL, DNS & Video Filtering — blocks malicious domains and manages content access (see FortiOS note below)
  • Antispam — email threat filtering for sites routing mail through the appliance
  • FortiCare Premium — 24×7 TAC access, firmware updates, and NBD hardware replacement coverage

What Is the UTP Bundle?

UTP sits between the entry-level Advanced Threat Protection and the full Enterprise Protection tier. It covers the threat intelligence and content filtering needs of most remote industrial sites without the DLP, OT Security telemetry, and Attack Surface components that Enterprise adds. If OT-specific detection and Security Rating matter for your deployment, the Enterprise Protection subscription extends coverage from there.

* URL/DNS/Video Filtering and AI-based Inline Malware Prevention require FortiOS 7.2.x LTS on the FGR-50G series; not available on FortiOS 7.4.4 and later. Fortinet recommends FortiOS 7.2.x LTS for full feature access on this platform.

FortiOS Compatibility Note

Starting with FortiOS 7.4.4, URL/DNS/Video Filtering is not available on FGR-50G hardware. For environments where URL filtering is a requirement, Fortinet recommends running FortiOS 7.2.x LTS on this platform. IPS and Advanced Malware Protection are unaffected and work across all supported firmware versions.

Who Uses This Subscription

The FC-10-FR5G5-950-02-12 is aimed at operators running FortiGate Rugged 50G-5G appliances in substations, remote OT sites, transit infrastructure, or any deployment where an IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 certified firewall is required. The 5G modem and dual-SIM failover mean the appliance is often the sole network gateway at the site — making current threat feeds more important, not less. Organizations in critical infrastructure sectors, utilities, and rolling stock (EN 50155:2021 certified hardware) are typical buyers.

Activation and Electronic Delivery

DataCenter360.ca sends the license registration key by email after order processing. Register at support.fortinet.com against the appliance serial number. Activation is immediate, with no physical shipment and no import delays. Available to buyers in any country — industrial and OT deployments happen worldwide, and FortiGuard subscriptions follow the hardware wherever it’s installed.

Renewing and Scaling Up

The 3-year (FC-10-FR5G5-950-02-36) and 5-year (FC-10-FR5G5-950-02-60) versions of this subscription reduce the cost per year and cut down on annual renewal administration — practical for OT infrastructure with long planning horizons. If your compliance program expands to require DLP and OT Security telemetry, the Enterprise Protection tier (FC-10-FR5G5-809-02-12) adds those services.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca is a Fortinet Select Partner and MSSP with experience in Fortinet OT and industrial security deployments. We source FortiGuard licenses through official Fortinet channels and deliver electronically, typically within the same business day. For organizations managing critical infrastructure, reliable license renewals matter — missed renewals leave appliances running on stale threat intelligence. Contact us before your expiry date and we’ll handle the transition.

Is this subscription available for purchase outside Canada?
Yes. FortiGuard subscription licenses carry no geographic restrictions. The FC-10-FR5G5-950-02-12 can be applied to a FortiGate Rugged 50G-5G registered anywhere in the world. DataCenter360.ca delivers the key electronically and activation is through Fortinet’s global support portal. OT deployments often span multiple countries — the licensing accommodates that.
Does the FGR-50G-5G support URL filtering under this license?
URL/DNS/Video Filtering is included in the UTP bundle and is supported on the FGR-50G-5G running FortiOS 7.2.x LTS. Starting with FortiOS 7.4.4, this feature is not available on the FGR-50G platform. Fortinet recommends the 7.2.x LTS branch if URL filtering is a requirement. IPS and Advanced Malware Protection are unaffected by this restriction.
What certifications does the FGR-50G-5G carry that affect OT compliance?
The FortiGate Rugged 50G-5G is certified to IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 for electric power grid deployments, and to EN 50155:2021 for rolling stock and rail environments. It also holds EN 50121 EMC certifications for railway applications. These are hardware certifications on the physical appliance — the UTP subscription keeps the software threat intelligence layer current for that certified hardware.
Should I choose UTP or Enterprise Protection for an ICS/SCADA site?
UTP covers the threat prevention core: IPS, malware detection, application control, and content filtering. Enterprise Protection adds OT Security (OT-specific device detection, OT application control, and OT IPS signatures), DLP, and Attack Surface Security. If your site includes OT assets that need dedicated visibility and control, and if your security framework requires Security Rating compliance scores, Enterprise is the stronger choice.
How does dual-SIM failover work on the FGR-50G-5G?
The appliance uses a Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP modem with two SIM slots in active/passive configuration. The primary SIM handles all traffic under normal conditions. If that connection fails or signal drops below threshold, FortiOS automatically switches to the secondary SIM. This hardware-level redundancy is independent of the FortiGuard subscription — the subscription governs which threat intelligence services run over that connection.
