Product description

The Intrusion Prevention subscription on the FortiWiFi 71G turns the device’s traffic inspection into an active defense against network exploits. Rather than relying only on firewall rules, IPS applies a continuously updated signature library to detect and block attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in servers, endpoints, and network services — including those on both the wired and wireless sides of the gateway.

What FortiGuard IPS Does

The FC-10-FW71G-108-02-12 license activates the IPS engine in FortiOS on your FortiWiFi 71G for one year. The signature library covers thousands of CVEs across application servers (Apache, IIS, Exchange), network protocols (SMB, RDP, DNS, HTTP), client-side exploits, and IoT-specific vulnerabilities. Signatures update from the FortiGuard distribution network on a regular schedule — when Fortinet releases a signature for a newly disclosed exploit, your device typically receives it within hours.

The IPS engine can operate in detection-only mode (IDS) or active blocking mode (IPS) depending on the policy you configure, giving you flexibility to tune aggressiveness based on your environment.

Who Needs a Standalone IPS Subscription

FortiWiFi 71G deployments running a basic firewall policy without a bundle subscription use the standalone IPS license to add threat detection without committing to the full bundle stack. It also suits environments that already have some bundle services from an older licensing model and are adding IPS as a complement. Any network carrying application traffic that could be targeted by an exploit scanner — which is most of them — benefits from IPS coverage at the perimeter.

IPS vs. the Full Bundle

FortiGuard IPS is included in all three subscription bundle tiers for the FortiWiFi 71G (ATP, UTP, and Enterprise). The table below shows where it fits relative to the other services in each bundle:

Capability ATP Bundle UTP Bundle Enterprise Bundle
Antivirus & Cloud Sandbox
Intrusion Prevention (IPS)
Application Control
URL, DNS & Video Filtering
Email Filter (Anti-Spam)
FortiConverter Migration Tool

If you want IPS coverage without the cost of a full bundle, this standalone license is the right approach. If you also need URL filtering, antivirus, or cloud sandbox, a UTP or Enterprise bundle may be more cost-effective than accumulating individual services.

Activation and Delivery

DataCenter360.ca delivers the license key electronically — typically within the same business day. Activation is done through the FortiGate management console or FortiCloud. The IPS signature database syncs automatically after activation and continues to receive updates throughout the year. No manual update steps required after initial setup.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

We are a Fortinet Select Partner in Ontario with access to the full FortiWiFi 71G subscription catalogue. License keys are issued through Fortinet’s official partner portal and verified against your registered device before delivery. Worldwide electronic delivery means your team in Canada, the US, or anywhere else receives the key immediately without border complications.

Is the IPS subscription available for purchase in Canada and internationally?
Yes. DataCenter360.ca delivers FortiGuard licenses electronically to any country. There are no customs or import restrictions on software subscription keys.

Does the IPS subscription cover wireless clients on the FortiWiFi 71G?
Yes. All traffic passing through the FortiWiFi 71G — from wired LAN and from wireless WLAN clients — goes through the same FortiOS security engine. IPS policies and signatures apply to all of it.

Is FortiGuard IPS included in the ATP, UTP, and Enterprise bundles?
Yes. IPS is included in all three bundle tiers. If you have an active ATP, UTP, or Enterprise subscription, you already have IPS coverage and do not need this standalone license.

How quickly does the FortiWiFi 71G receive new IPS signatures?
Fortinet pushes emergency signatures for critical zero-day vulnerabilities typically within hours of public disclosure. Routine signature updates release on a regular schedule. The FortiWiFi 71G pulls them automatically when connected to the FortiGuard network.

Can I run IPS alongside an existing bundle on the same device?
If your bundle already includes IPS (ATP, UTP, or Enterprise), you do not need to add the standalone IPS license — the bundle already covers it. This standalone license is for devices running without a bundle subscription.
