What you get with the appliance

You receive the FGR-60F hardware running FortiOS, Fortinet’s combined networking and security operating system, plus integrated Secure SD-WAN and a built-in wireless controller at no added cost. The chassis carries a hardware Trusted Platform Module for verified boot and key storage, and it is certified to IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 for electrical-utility and substation use. Two GE RJ45/SFP shared-media pairs let you run copper or fibre uplinks, and a dedicated bypass pair between PORT4 and WAN1 keeps traffic flowing if the unit loses power.

Where it fits

The 60F is sized for one site, not a data centre. It suits a substation bay, a water or wastewater facility, a manufacturing cell, a transport cabinet, or any branch where temperature, vibration, and dust would kill an office-grade firewall. Because FortiOS speaks more than 50 OT protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104, EtherNet/IP, Siemens S7 and many more) once the Industrial Security service is active, it can segment a Purdue-model network and apply virtual patching to equipment that can never be taken offline for updates.

Appliance alone, or a bundle?

Choose the bare FGR-60F when you already hold a valid FortiGuard subscription to move onto it, for example when you are swapping in a spare or migrating an existing deployment. For a new rollout, a FortiGate Rugged 60F bundle is usually better value: it pairs the hardware with FortiCare Premium support and a FortiGuard tier, so the unit arrives ready to inspect traffic and block threats. On its own the 60F still gives you firewalling, segmentation, SD-WAN, and VPN, just not the subscription-driven inspection services.
