Product description

Three hundred seventy watts across 24 PoE+ ports gives network teams enough headroom to power a full floor of FortiAPs, IP phones, and cameras without external injectors or separate PoE switches. The FS-124F-FPOE handles all of it from a single 1RU device: 24 GE copper ports with simultaneous PoE+, four 10GE SFP+ uplinks for high-bandwidth fiber connections to the FortiGate or distribution layer, and FortiLink for centralized switching policy. When the access layer needs both density and power, this is the switch in the 124F family that covers both.

What’s in the Box

The FS-124F-FPOE ships as a 1RU rack-mount unit with a built-in AC power supply (100-240V). All 24 RJ45 ports are PoE+ capable (802.3af and 802.3at), with the total across all active PoE ports capped at 370W. Four 10GE SFP+ uplink slots are available for fiber transceivers or DAC cables. The unit includes smart fan temperature control — fans run at low speeds during normal operation and ramp up under thermal load.

Where It Fits

The FS-124F-FPOE is sized for office floors and IDF closets where access-layer PoE coverage needs to be complete — every port powered, every device covered. A dense deployment with 12 FortiAPs at 22W each (264W), 6 IP phones at 7W (42W), and 6 IP cameras at 10W (60W) totals 366W — right at the 370W budget. For environments where device counts vary by floor, the 370W budget means you can flex between device mixes without redesigning the switching layer.

Hardware Only — Services Sold Separately

Like the rest of the FS-124F line, this unit ships with hardware and a limited lifetime warranty. FortiCare support contracts (Premium or Essential) are available separately and add TAC access, firmware update rights, and hardware replacement options. For access-layer switches in production environments — where a failed switch impacts an entire floor — FortiCare Premium with advance replacement is worth the additional investment.

Who Runs It

Canadian organizations running FortiGate 60F, 80F, 90G, or 100F series firewalls deploy the FS-124F-FPOE as the primary access-layer switch when every desk, meeting room AP, or VoIP phone needs PoE. Education institutions, healthcare facilities, and multi-floor offices consolidate their wired and PoE infrastructure under FortiLink, which centralizes port profiles, VLAN assignments, and 802.1X access control across all managed switches from the FortiGate dashboard.

Moving Up

The FS-124G-FPOE is the next-generation upgrade, bringing the same 24 PoE+ GE + 4x 10GE SFP+ layout to an updated hardware platform. For environments that need 48 PoE+ ports in a single rack unit, the FS-148F-FPOE handles 48 GE PoE+ ports with a 740W budget and 4x 10GE SFP+ uplinks. The FS-124F (non-PoE) and FS-124F-POE (12-port PoE at 185W) are available when full 24-port PoE coverage is not required.

What is the difference between the FS-124F-FPOE and the FS-124F-POE?
Both switches have 24x GE RJ45 + 4x 10GE SFP+ with the same switching specs (128 Gbps / 190 Mpps). The FS-124F-POE provides PoE on 12 of the 24 ports with a 185W total budget. The FS-124F-FPOE (Full PoE) provides PoE on all 24 ports with a 370W budget. If your deployment requires every port to be PoE-capable or your total device wattage exceeds 185W, the FPOE model is the correct choice.

How many FortiAPs can the FS-124F-FPOE power simultaneously?
With a 370W total PoE budget, the FS-124F-FPOE can simultaneously power approximately 16–17 FortiAPs drawing 22W each (802.3at class) before reaching the power limit. For lower-wattage 802.3af APs drawing 12–15W, up to 24 APs can be powered concurrently. Port priority settings determine which ports are powered first if the budget is exceeded, giving you control over which devices stay online during heavy PoE loads.

Does the FS-124F-FPOE require a FortiGate to operate?
No. The FS-124F-FPOE runs in standalone mode with direct CLI access for VLAN, spanning tree, PoE, and port configuration. FortiLink mode, where a FortiGate manages the switch through the Fortinet Secure Fabric, is optional but provides centralized policy, NAC, IoT detection, and VLAN management without per-switch configuration. FortiLink is recommended for multi-switch deployments and organizations already running FortiGate firewalls.

What transceivers and cables work with the 10GE SFP+ ports?
The four 10GE SFP+ uplink ports accept standard 10GBase-SR fiber transceivers (such as the FN-TRAN-SFP+SR) for multi-mode fiber runs up to 300 meters, as well as passive 10GE DAC cables (such as the FN-CABLE-SFP+1) for short intra-rack or adjacent-rack connections. For longer single-mode fiber runs, compatible 10GBase-LR or LRM transceivers can also be used. 1GE SFP modules are also accepted at reduced speed for backward compatibility.

Is the FS-124F-FPOE in stock in Canada?
