Product description

Wi-Fi 6 access points regularly deliver multi-gigabit aggregate throughput to clients, and a 1GE uplink to the wiring closet becomes the bottleneck almost immediately. The FortiSwitch 624F addresses this by giving each of its 24 access ports a speed range of 1G, 2.5G, or 5G, auto-negotiated per connected device. The switch connects to distribution with four 25GE SFP28 ports, and hardware MACsec on all ports adds AES-256 link encryption without a CPU penalty.

What Is in the Box

The FS-624F ships as a 1U rack-mount switch chassis with no SFP28 transceivers included. It integrates with FortiGate via FortiLink for fabric-based policy management, or operates standalone with a full Layer 2/3 feature set. FortiCare support is purchased separately.

Where the 624F Performs Best

Dense Wi-Fi 6 deployments are the primary use case: each RJ45 port auto-senses and matches the AP’s backhaul speed, so a closet full of Wi-Fi 6E APs connecting at 2.5 or 5G gets the bandwidth it needs without manual port configuration. The 25GE uplinks give the switch enough trunk capacity to handle all 24 ports running simultaneously without oversubscription at the distribution tier. MACsec makes it a natural fit for regulated environments where link-layer encryption is a compliance requirement.

Hardware Only vs. a Support Contract

The FS-624F includes standard hardware warranty. TAC access, firmware subscriptions, and advance RMA require a FortiCare contract. For production campus deployments, the 1-year Premium option (FC-10-624FN-247-02-12) is the practical choice and is listed separately on this site.

Who Deploys This Switch

Network teams at schools, hospitality properties, and corporate campuses rolling out Wi-Fi 6 or 6E across a high-density floor. It also fits financial and healthcare environments where encryption at the switch port is part of the compliance checklist. Anywhere the access-layer speed limit has been 1GE and the new AP or endpoint tier is ready to push past that ceiling, the 624F is the upgrade path.

Step Up from the 624F

If you need a higher-capacity spine or the wiring-closet role scales to a core distribution position, the FortiSwitch T1024E (FS-T1024E) is the next tier: 24 multi-gig ports with 100GE uplink capability and campus core switching capacity. Both units integrate with FortiGate via FortiLink, so the management model transfers directly.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca stocks the FS-624F and ships to Canadian addresses within 0–1 business days at no freight charge. As a Fortinet Select Partner, we can also quote FortiCare Premium contracts and accessory SFP28 modules in the same order. Contact us for multi-unit pricing on larger rollouts.

Do I need a FortiGate to use the FS-624F?
No. The 624F operates as a standalone Layer 2/3 switch with its own CLI and management interface. FortiLink integration is optional and adds centralized policy enforcement when paired with a FortiGate running FortiOS. Standalone deployments have access to the full VLAN, QoS, spanning tree, and IGMP snooping feature set without a FortiGate in the infrastructure.

What speeds does each RJ45 port support?
Each of the 24 RJ45 ports auto-negotiates at 1GE, 2.5GE, or 5GE depending on the connected device’s capability. A standard 1GE device like a laptop or IP camera connects at 1G; a Wi-Fi 6 AP rated for 2.5G backhaul steps up automatically. There is no per-port configuration needed to activate multi-gig on the access port side.

Are SFP28 transceivers included with the switch?
No, the FS-624F is hardware only. The four 25GE SFP28 uplink slots accept Fortinet-compatible transceivers, including the FN-TRAN-SFP+SR short-range SR module for multimode fiber runs under 300 m. DAC cables (FN-CABLE-SFP+1) work for very short rack-to-rack connections. Transceivers are available separately on this site.

What does MACsec encryption cover on the 624F?
MACsec on the FS-624F is implemented in hardware across all ports, encrypting Ethernet frames at Layer 2 using AES-256. This protects traffic on the physical link between the switch port and the connected device or uplink. It is distinct from application-layer TLS or IPsec tunnels and does not require software configuration on the endpoints beyond MACsec key exchange negotiation (IEEE 802.1X MKA).

Is the FS-624F available in Canada with fast shipping?
Yes. DataCenter360.ca is a Canadian Fortinet Select Partner stocking the FS-624F for shipment within 0–1 business days. Shipping to Canadian addresses is included at no charge. FortiCare support contracts ordered alongside the hardware are delivered electronically via Fortinet’s partner portal.
