Fortinet 100M Fast Ethernet SFP Module, 2km MMF (FN-TRAN-FX)

When a link has to run over multimode fiber but only needs Fast Ethernet, the FN-TRAN-FX is Fortinet’s answer. This 100BASE-FX SFP carries 100 Mbps up to 2km on a pair of LC-terminated multimode fibers at 1310nm, and its 10/100 Mb mode selection lets it fall back to a 10 Mb link where an older device requires it. The wide -40 to 85 degrees C rating suits plant floors, curbside cabinets, and other spots where copper distance limits or electrical noise rule out twisted pair.

Where this module fits

A 100M fiber SFP bridges a Fortinet appliance to remote equipment that sits past the 100m copper limit or in an electrically noisy environment: a camera or controller at the far end of a building, a link between two cabinets, or an older aggregation point that only speaks Fast Ethernet. At 2km over multimode fiber the FN-TRAN-FX covers campus and industrial spans that copper cannot. For a 100M copper port instead, use the FN-TRAN-FE-4PACK; to step the same fiber run up to gigabit, use the FN-TRAN-SX (short) or FN-TRAN-LX (long).

Compatibility

Fits an SFP slot on Fortinet appliances that accept 1G/100M SFP optics and presents a duplex-LC multimode fiber port at 100 Mbps. Pair it with matching 1310nm multimode fiber to 2km. For 100M over copper use the FN-TRAN-FE-4PACK, for 1GbE short fiber the FN-TRAN-SX, and for 1GbE long fiber the FN-TRAN-LX.
