Fortinet 1GbE SFP SX Short-Range Transceiver Module, 550m MMF (FN-TRAN-SX)

The FN-TRAN-SX is Fortinet’s everyday 1-gigabit short-range fibre optic. It is a 1000BASE-SX module at 850nm on a duplex LC connector, reaching 500m over 50/125 µm multimode fibre (or 220m over older 62.5/125 µm), which covers most in-building and campus fibre runs. It drops into any SFP or SFP+ cage on a FortiGate, FortiSwitch, or FortiManager and, being Fortinet-qualified, is accepted by the appliance instead of raising an unsupported-optic alarm.

Where this module fits

The SX is the default choice for 1GbE over multimode fibre inside a building or across a campus: switch uplinks, appliance-to-switch links, and FortiAP aggregation runs up to 500m on OM2/OM3 fibre. Where the plant is older 62.5/125 µm fibre, plan for the shorter 220m reach. For single-mode distance, the FN-TRAN-LX covers 10km; for harsher environments, the industrial FN-TRAN-SXI-4PACK and FortiRugged FR-TRAN-SX carry a wider temperature rating.

Compatibility

Fits the SFP/SFP+ ports of FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances. Use OM2 or better multimode duplex LC fibre and a matching 1000BASE-SX optic at the far end. For a 10km single-mode reach, use the FN-TRAN-LX; where temperatures fall below -20°C, choose the FR-TRAN-SX (-40°C to 85°C) or the FN-TRAN-SXI industrial pack.
