Fortinet 1GbE SFP Module, Long Range 10km SMF (FN-TRAN-LX)

For gigabit links that leave the building, the FN-TRAN-LX carries 1 GbE up to 10km over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, terminated on a duplex LC. It is the long-range counterpart to the multimode FN-TRAN-SX, meant for campus backbones, building-to-building runs, and connections back to a distribution point that sit well beyond copper or short-fiber limits. The -40 to 85 degrees C rating lets it live in unconditioned enclosures at either end of the span.

Where this module fits

Single-mode gigabit optics are how a Fortinet appliance reaches across a campus: a firewall linking two buildings, an uplink to a distribution switch several floors or several hundred metres away, or a metro-adjacent run. At 10km the FN-TRAN-LX covers spans that multimode and copper cannot. For a short in-building fiber hop the multimode FN-TRAN-SX is cheaper; to move the same fiber path to 10 gigabit, step up to the FN-TRAN-SFP+LR.

Compatibility

Fits an SFP or SFP+ slot on Fortinet appliances that accept 1G SFP optics and presents a duplex-LC single-mode fiber port. Pair it with 1310nm single-mode fiber to 10km. For short-range 1GbE use the multimode FN-TRAN-SX, and for a copper RJ-45 gigabit port use the FN-TRAN-GC.
