Fortinet 1GbE Copper RJ-45 SFP Module, 100m (FN-TRAN-GC)

Not every gigabit link should be fiber. The FN-TRAN-GC turns an SFP or SFP+ cage on a Fortinet appliance into a plain RJ-45 gigabit port, running 1000BASE-T to 100m over Cat5e or better twisted pair. It is the module you reach for when the far end is a copper-only switch, server NIC, or appliance and you would rather not add media converters. A -40 to 85 degrees C rating keeps it working in warm and industrial cabinets where a standard-temp part would derate.

Where this module fits

A copper SFP is the simplest way to land a gigabit fiber cage on RJ-45: connecting a Fortinet firewall or switch to a copper-only access switch, a server, or a legacy device that has no fiber option. At 100m over twisted pair it covers a floor or a run between adjacent rooms. Where the link is longer or must cross an electrically noisy path, move to fiber with the FN-TRAN-SX (short) or FN-TRAN-LX (long). For a 10-gigabit copper port in an SFP+ cage, step up to the FN-TRAN-SFP+GC.

Compatibility

Fits an SFP or SFP+ slot on Fortinet appliances that accept 1G copper optics, and presents a standard RJ-45 gigabit port with auto-negotiation. Use Cat5e or better cabling to 100m. For 1GbE fiber use the FN-TRAN-SX or FN-TRAN-LX; for 10GbE copper in an SFP+ slot use the FN-TRAN-SFP+GC.
