Fortinet 100GbE QSFP28 BiDi Module, Short Range 100m (FN-TRAN-QSFP28-BIDI)

The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-BIDI brings 100-gigabit reach to duplex multimode fiber instead of the MPO ribbon that standard SR4 optics require. Using bidirectional 850nm and 900nm wavelengths over one fiber pair, this 100GBASE-SR-BiDi module runs 100 GbE to 100m on OM4, or 150m on OM5, on a simple duplex LC. That lets a data center reuse existing 40G duplex multimode cabling for a 100G upgrade rather than re-pulling to MPO.

Where this module fits

BiDi 100G optics are the migration path for sites with an installed base of duplex multimode fiber: a 100G uplink from a FortiGate to a spine switch that reuses the LC duplex plant already run for 40G or 10G, avoiding an MPO re-cable. At 100m on OM4 or 150m on OM5 it covers in-row and cross-row links. Where the plant is already MPO the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR is the standard choice, and for single-mode distance the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR reaches 10km.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP28 slots on 100G-capable Fortinet appliances and connects over duplex-LC multimode fiber. It must pair with another BiDi optic, such as a second FN-TRAN-QSFP28-BIDI, at the far end. For MPO parallel multimode use the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR; for a short port-to-port link the FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1 passive DAC replaces the optics and fiber.
