Fortinet 100GbE QSFP28 Module, Extended Range 20km SMF (FN-TRAN-QSFP28-ER)

The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-ER is the extended-reach top of Fortinet’s 100G QSFP28 family. It uses the same four-wavelength 100GBASE-LR4 optics as the 10km LR module but is qualified to 20km over a single pair of single-mode fibers on a duplex LC. That reach suits inter-site links, a connection to a second data center across a metro, or a campus that spans more than 10km, where no other 100G QSFP28 optic will close the link.

Where this module fits

Extended-range 100G optics exist for the links nothing else reaches: a metro connection between two facilities, a data-center-to-data-center hop past 10km, or a long campus backbone. At 20km over single-mode fiber the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-ER is the longest 100G QSFP28 reach Fortinet offers. Where 10km is enough the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR is lower cost, and for 2km the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-FR or CWDM4 modules apply.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP28 slots on 100G-capable Fortinet appliances and connects over duplex-LC single-mode fiber at 100GbE to 20km. It interoperates with a compliant LR4 optic at the far end within the supported loss budget. For 10km use the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR; for 2km the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-FR; for short multimode links the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR.
