The FN-TRAN-QSFP28-FR carries a full 100 GbE up to 2km over a single pair of single-mode fibers at 1310nm, terminated on a duplex LC. It sits between the 500m DR module and the 10km LR4, covering large-campus and multi-building links that are too long for multimode or DR but do not need a 10km optic. FR uses a single serialized 1310nm lane rather than the four wavelengths of an LR4, making it a straightforward, cost-effective 2km choice.

A 100G FR optic is the medium-reach single-mode workhorse: a FortiGate connecting to an aggregation layer across a campus, or a building-to-building link within 2km. Duplex single-mode fiber keeps cabling simple. For a shorter 500m single-mode hop the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-DR is cheaper, the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-CWDM4 covers the same 2km with CWDM optics, and for a full 10km reach step up to the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP28 slots on 100G-capable Fortinet appliances and connects over duplex-LC single-mode fiber at 100GbE to 2km. Pair it with a matching FR single-mode optic at the far end. For 500m use the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-DR; for 10km the FN-TRAN-QSFP28-LR; for an in-rack copper link the FN-CABLE-QSFP28-1 passive DAC replaces the optic and fiber.
