Fortinet 400GbE QSFP-DD Module, Short Range 500m SMF (FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-DR4)

The FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-DR4 is Fortinet’s short single-mode 400G module. Four parallel single-mode lanes at 1310nm over an MPO-12 ribbon carry a full 400 Gbps to 500m, bridging the gap between multimode SR8 and the 2km and 10km duplex optics. A useful property of DR4 is lane breakout: the four single-mode lanes can fan out to four 100G single-mode links, which makes it a common spine-side choice in 400G-to-4x100G designs.

Where this module fits

A 400G DR4 optic is the short single-mode 400G link and the standard breakout building block: a QSFP-DD port on a Fortinet appliance to a 400G switch at 500m, or fanned out to four 100G single-mode ports on the spine side. For 100m multimode the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-SR8 is cheaper, for a 2km parallel single-mode reach the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-DR4+ extends the same MPO-12 layout, and for 2km on a duplex LC the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-FR4 applies.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP-DD slots on 400G-capable Fortinet appliances and connects over MPO-12 parallel single-mode fiber at 400GbE to 500m. Pair it with a matching DR4 optic, or break out to four 100G single-mode links. For 100m multimode use the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-SR8; for a copper in-rack link the FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-DAC-01 passive DAC replaces the optic and fiber.
